Question....do snakes like to hang out in blueberry bushes like they do blackberry bushes? That's all I could think of when you were leaning into the bushes!

Were they your blueberry bushes? I'm jealous. We planted about 20 plants this spring but they are still very small. Can't wait to harvest our own.

We use to pick wild blueberries in Minnesota. Very small berries but so flavorful!

I'll have to keep an eye out for one of those blueberry scoopers.

Nice video...thanks for sharing. (I could even hear the mosquitoes buzzing around in the background!)

Well that video is a real thriller

Those bushes look great though...... I have planted several the last few years and they have all died.....except for one dwarf, but it will not produce fruit....

Here is another video of how we wash and clean the berries of leaves and green berries. It works really well. After finishing the wash. We froze and dried about 3 gallons or 12.5 pounds of berries. The green berries left after cleaning were less than a cup. We picked them out as we finished them.

Our bushes have already ripened but I needed one of those things when I was trying to pick them all by hand. Thanks for sharing.

Generally,

Low bush blueberry is considered wild. They occur in the northeast for the most part. Today they are cultivated by burning or mowing. They only get to a max hight of 24" (this would be really tall). They make tiny but flavorful berries.

Highbush blueberry is generally considered cultivated. They are found over the northeast as well. But they go further south than the lowbush cousins. They are pruned with shears. They are taller than 24"(this would be really short). They make bigger berries.

Rabbit Eye blueberries are adapted to the warmer southern climate but otherwise are very simaler to Highbush.

If you go to get some plants at the store they will be Highbush type. That is the kind they sell. If you were to go into the mountains to your southeast. Along the top of the lower ridges you will likely find lowbush. If it's a draw or high marshy area you may find Highbush here they are at the highest elevations (2000 FT+).

All blueberries are Native to North America.

blueberries are also native to the nordic countries as well. IE norway, sweden, etc.

we have tonnes of wild berries around here, one of my favourite places to pick is on an abandoned rail bed that runs along the river behind my house.
