All I can say is I would check the folded blankets first because that is where we found a snake in our house once...

thats tough. I lost an 6' boa in my house for a year. if I couldn't find THAT it seems unlikely that you'll find a little copperhead. sorry. nooks and crannys is where you need to look. if it got in it may just get out too.

Just a thought, but I think its rattlers that "glow" under a black light--- just wondering if copperheads do too, and if so maybe turn out the lights and walk thru the house with a black light looking for a glow?? I think I'd probably end up calling someone who removes things like snakes or scorpions etc... for a living. They are bound to have tricks that we won't think of. Gosh, I really feel concerned for you guys! Send your kids to grandmas for the night! I have guineas, I'd be bringing them in to "hunt" since they kill snakes. I'd rather clean bird doo than get bit!!!!! Kathy

I wish I was close to you, My Dog would probably find him in a few seconds--if the snake is still in there. Do you have someone close to you that has a "snake dog"? Most any dog can smell a snake---you got a dog?

DW suggests burning the house. Her theory is that the fire and smoke will either kill the snake or drive it out, and the fire will make room for the new house that I will have to build before she checks out of the hotel she's staying in.

I'd suggest a couple of cats. The only snakes I have ever found in my house have been brought there by a cat so maybe they can find the one in your house. Just don't feed them for a couple of days and they'll find it.

i would call the wildlife and fisheries , or animal control, they have a much better chance of finding it and removing it without anyone getting hurt.

If they cant help, ill bring you some matches, but do NOT stay in there. Wouldnt want to wake up with a copperhead under my covers.

o.k. - don't blast me for cruelty to animale - just an idea here. Use a caught mouse (they squeal and rustle around) as bait. We accidentally caught a big ole black snake in our old mobile home that way. Came home from the store one night and walked into the dark kitchen - THUMP! - something fell out of the kitchen cabinet and was squirming around in the dark at my ankles - I could FEEL it was a snake! Screamed for hubby to get the light on and there it was - it couldn/t go anywhere - its head was stuck to a big glue trap along with the fussing mouse it had been trying to catch! Caught a mouse AND a snake!

I've had snakes loose in my house three different times (and three different houses). Never found any of them and assume they found their way out. Sure hope that is the case for you. Not sure I could sleep in a house with a copperhead running around!

Check your dryer vent - we had some coming in from there the first year we were renting our old place - several small ones and one big one [lotsa panic with that one, although they were all garden and king snakes]. I found one all dried up under the stove when I moved it for cleaning, LOL.
