Different types of homesteaders......

I love this site, and find it so interesting to read about the different "types" of homesteaders here and what each of us actually considers homesteading.
Some do it out of necessity, others out of choice, such as moving from the city so live a more "earthy" lifestyle. Some raise their own meat, while others buy it from said farmer.........some in very modest housing, while others have fancier digs. Anyway you look at it, pretty much everyone here has a similar "interest" in being fully or semi-sustainable in some way..
Just a rant, while eating my egg sandwich , that i not moments ago pulled from under one of our hens.......

I do it for delight.

Do you have some pullets you can sell me? My DD LOVES egg sandwiches, but she always leaves such a mess when she makes them! I would LOVE to have hens that lay them already made!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey could you throw together another egg sandwich with a little mustard and horseradish, and lots of salt & pepper? YUM. Haven't had one of those in awhile now and it sounds good.

Yes, there are all ranges of homesteaders and many wanna-be's. Whatever works - to each his/her own.

I'm gonna make some egg salad tonight, yours sounded so good!

This is something I have been trying to define. Homesteading, that is.

For me...

I want to be independent and unoppressed. So, that means growing a good deal of my food or buying it locally, can't stand the thought of donating ONE penny to Big Ag and all the bastardizing they have done to our food sources.

I feel the same way about Mr. Electric Meter. I hate him turning at all!

So, I hang out my clothes to dry and turn off all the lights when possible. Cooking more in my solar oven is my goal.

For the first time in 30 years my husband works close by, about 10 minutes is average commute to work, so we stay local.

My 'Homesteading' has to be coupled with my man. He isn't ready to live in a box (extended stay inn) during the week and come home on weekends...therefore I consider myself growing a homestead and learning all I can to be totally independent. I feel that knowledge is key. If I know a few people that raise their animals the way I would, as to what they are fed; if I know how they farm, then I know where my food can come from whether I am in the city or not.

It's all in the knowledge base and being willing to go without AC if I have to or indulging in full up central air powered by my windmill and solar panels. WILLING to adapt.

I just do it in the city with a thousand houses and highways and concrete everywhere. Not ideal, but ain't too bad either.

Can you feed your chicken some rye grains, I would like my sandwich on rye bread, thank you....

I've seen these ready made sandwiches at the deli counter at the grocery store, now I know where they come from.
