LLBean Waterhog mats?

I've been thinking about something like this for under the dog water bowl but wondered if anyone had ever had one and if they are any good? How can recycled plastic absorb water??????

They have one for dog dishes as well but that doesn't seem like it will be big enough for my water dishes since the "slop" frequently ends up outside the current boot tray. The joys of large slobbery dogs! Here's their dog dish sized mat:

I have one of the rectangular waterhog mats under my dogs' water dish, not the one sold for pets. The water dish is on a rubbery/plastic tray, and that sits on the bigger mat. It worked fine for my neat drinker, but I got the world's sloppiest drinker a couple of months ago. He spews water in all directions as he walks away from the dish. If he has recently been outdoors, he leaves muddy footprints behind.

The mat does work to contain water from the drips a normal dog makes, but I don't know if anything would work for slobs like mine.

We have one - but for the side door where we always come in. (No dogs here) And, I gotta say, the sucker works! Dirt, mud, snow, water - it stays on the mat.

Go for it!

That's the situation I have as well. I have 4 contenders for "World's Sloppiest Drinker." The Basset's ears drip through the water, the Lab drinks and runs, dribbling a trail behind him, one Pyr drools all over and the other sticks her whole face into the water bowl! And with 3 1/2 extra large drinkers we're talking a PAIL of water, not a little bowl. Sigh. Maybe I ought to get the extra large rug and put the pail in the middle!

I haven't tried the LL Bean mat, but the industrial mats at Sam's Club are pretty good. My problem is, when I've used them under the dogs bowls, they never dry out, and then get really yucky. We have tile, so now I use a plastic plate, larger than the water bowl, to catch the intial slop of water, and I just wipe down the floor around it a few times a day. Plastic boot trays work well too, but if water gets under them, then the floor stays damp. I swear, one of my shepherds lets the whole last mouthful of water ooze out of his mouth as he walks away!

That must be a Shepherd thing. Our 1st German Shepherd did the exact same thing. Now we have a Shepherd mix and he is doing the exact same thing. Leaves a long trail of water!
