Anyone familiar with Colorado??

Hello,

It's been a long time since I have visited this forum, but I thought maybe you could help. My husband is relocating near Longmont Colorado. We are currently in California. If anyone lives near Longmont, could you please tell me anything good/bad? I have googled the last couple days...I don't seem to be getting anywhere....I'm concerned about the growing season, schools, taxes...

Thanks for any responses!!

We are down in Denver, but Longmont is maybe a 35 minute drive north of us. You are closer to the front range that I but most likely very simular growing season (mid May - mid Nov).

it ranks in top 100 places to live by CNN/ Money Magazine year after year. Also some "All-American city" award... not certain what the means but it comes up tops frequently.

You mentioned "near Longmont" in your question. Which side? There is a difference between Longmont, Fort Collins, Brighton, Boulder and so on. The differences can be significant depending upon what you prefer.

My guess would be high tech industry located between Boulder and Longmont. I would be glad to pass on a little knowledge from a native if you will be more specific. What would you prefer?

Good luck. Gary

I dunno - it would depend on where you are from and what you are used to! I spent a lot of time working in the "Ft Collins to Denver" corridor and the Colorado Springs area. While an ok place to visit, The Ft Collins-Loveland-Boulder-Denver area is one place I would NEVER live. It is one HUGE rat race of a zoo.

If you are used to Los Angeles, then you might like it.

There was a huge influx of Cali's to the front range in the 90's. In fact at that time it was best to immediately change your plates to Colo, as Cali's weren't looked on to favorably.

I have noticed another influx this year around the state. I can tell you straight up...I'm not happy about it. Last time it made our real estate go through the roof, and it still hasn't come back down to where is should be.

Also they seemed to bring their Cali' ideas with them and wanted to change Colo into Cali. The succeeded in some areas.

I do most of my business/shopping in Yuma County, in eastern Colorado. I saw a pickup the other day that had a bumper sticker that looked like the classic green mountain license plate and had "No Vacancy" as the vanity message.

Let me be straight with you - as a Colorado resident that lives near Longmont. I live in Fort Collins, which is an awesome place to live. I'm not a fan of Longmont, I would never live there. Lots of transplants from other states - so you might fit in. But overall the place seems to be a bit dirty to me. I think it lacks cultural as well. A quick weekend trip would answer all of your questions.

I think it was called "Californication of CO"

sometimes Paul moved to the Denver area in the 80's and moved to IL 7 years ago. He says he doesn't miss a thing about the CO he left.

Expensive overpriced land/house. Water issues and if you have a bully breed (pit bull, etc) then most likely will be seized or banned once you move there.

I just want to toss in that the Front Range and the eastern part of Colorado are worlds apart. Not just in scenery (eastern CO is pretty barren). But in attitudes, regulations, etc.

I like vacationing in Denver, but I'd never move there. On the other hand, until we found our place in KS (just across the line from CO), we were looking at land in eastern CO, too. I wouldn't hesitate to move to eastern CO...
