Ants???

We have always had ant hills on our property but gradually as I mowed them off they disappear. This year though, I see that they are in my vege garden. I sprinkle Seven on them but I hate using too much of that, if at all. Is there anything else I can use thats more friendly???

Unless you have fire ants, I leave them alone when they are in my garden. They are nature's little garbage picker-upers. Especially if you are worried about what might be safer - the ants are most likely safer.

I have the big field ants that build the big mounds in the grass. I just mow them off too.

If they were in the the house, then I'd take care of those ants specifically...

I would like to ditto that question because I have ants all over my squash area and I do only organic pesticides. Anyone know of anything at all I can do?

I live in the metroplex (Dallas/Fort Worth area), and ants are everywhere - except my yard. I have had great luck mixing 1/2 - 1/2 table sugar and 20 Mule Team Borax. No ants. This worked even in my window boxes.

I worry when they mound up near or in a plants area. Won't they hurt the vegetable? right now I think they are right at the base of a potato plant.....Maybe Ill try the sugar, borax thing.

I never used the sugar, but I've used borax to get rid of carpenter ants. It takes time, but it does work.

I've used Borax, too, with good results. I heard on a radio talk show to use table salt. I don't know personally if this works, but seems easy and inexpensive to try. the man suggested table salt if you see them coming in and can follow the line....sprinkle ample amounts of salt all along where they are. and pouring on the anthills.
