Ouch,

ouch, ouch!!! I just had my bin filled with 3 tons of rolled corn. Corn + rolling fee + delivery= $875.00.

That's well over twice what it cost last time. The selling price of my freezer beef just went up. I suspect my customers won't be thrilled about it.

But, I hope they understand that if I can't make some money at this I will have to quit and they will lose their source of quality meat.

Can understand, last year I paid $419.40 for 3 tons of cracked corn, and I pick up the corn. This year $599.40 for 3 tons, and I still pick up the the corn.

It was sometime in the late spring or early summer of 07. I'm feeding out some hogs and soon will start some steers so it might get sort of close on making any profit.

I've already decided that the steers are going to get fatter on grass that usual and not get as much corn as I normaly feed them. Got to put some grain finish on them though, neither me nor my customers care for grass only beef.

How much was fuel and petro related inputs last year? I just talked to a farmer who sells hay. He gets $300 to $400 per ton. With inputs being so high he told me he made more money in the past selling for $80 to $90 with lower input costs. He is scaling back his operation because of it.
We aint seen nuthin yet! Get prepared...
