In answering some of your other questions, the walls are 8 feet tall, and then they start going up to the point of the dome, which I think is around 12 feet.
Yes, they are very open, and that's what we like about them.
The reason the walls and roof were done before the floor is really simple. In order to do the roof, they had to have a trailer with the forms on it, and they pulled that into the module and then had a hydraulic jack to move the forms up into position before the concrete pour.
Because of the massive weight, if we'd poured the floors first, the weight of the trailer, with all that concrete it would be supporting, would have cracked the floors. So, the walls and roof are done first, and then the forms are jacked back down to the trailer and the trailer is pulled out of the module, and then the rest of the forms are removed from the walls.
Then they set up for the next module and do it all again. It's about a week per module, and the modules are 28x28 or 24x24, all with domed roofs/ceilings. Plus, we have a huge skylight in the shape of a octagon that is at the crest of the dome in our great room. This will provide additional light, as well as additional feeling of openness.
And what we've done isn't perfect (or for everyone), but it's right for us. We're working hard and enjoying the process (although today, I'm working my you-know-what off)(hint, it involves digging ... a lot of digging, and it's over 90 degrees Fahrenheit in the shade).
