Experienced homesteader for rent(barter)

I'm looking for someone who could use a little extra help or an experienced homesteader to learn from. I have an 18' portable dome that I'd like to set up and run an extension cord to it. A hose would be great but I don't mind toting water. It's just me and my small dog. I'd like to barter some of my skill/time for a place to stay. I need to be close(within 20 miles or so) to somewhere that I could work as a barber or a waitress. Probably looking for 3-4 month stay(flexible).

I've been homesteading for almost 20 years. Many of those years I was as self sufficient as possible and at least 3 of them were without electricity. Areas of homesteading experience: beekeeping, dairy and beef cows, making butter and cheese, chickens, goats, rabbits, organic gardening, spinning, weaving, crocheting, knitting, rug hooking, almost anything involving fiber or thread, cooking from scratch including pasta and breads, cooking on wood cook stoves or over open fires, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, fencing, composting toilets, canning and preserving, tractor work....lots more that doesn't really fit into a category.

I do not smoke, do drugs or drink. Not a partier nor a carouser. I enjoy yoga, playing my fiddle, riding my motorcycle, reading and researching on the internet. I'm looking for a place in California, Arizona, Mexico or would consider Texas. I love to travel and see new places but miss homesteading. So I'm hoping to have my cake and eat it too

Well I'll consider most anything in the western half of the united states since that's the part I haven't seen yet. However, it has to be somewhere warm!...or at least where it's warm part of the day. I'm currently on the northern coast of California and I'm about to freeze to death! When I took this job they told me the weather was perfect year round(told me lots of other stuff too)....they lied! If it's not freezing cold where you are I'd definately consider it.

This place gets snow! Sounds like not a good fit for you. I suspect you'll find something soon though!

Would you consider southeastern MN in the summer? I am sole caregiver for my Mom with Alzheimer's, and am finding it difficult getting the outside stuff done while keeping her safe. I mean things like mowing, trying to keep the burdock and thistle under control in the pastures, cleaning the barn, that type of thing. I run a herd of fiber llamas and alpacas, and the burdock is murder on my crop of fiber! I am located between two larger cities, each is about 20 miles away. I have a nice level pasture behind the granary, close to electricity and water, and currently home to a wild turkey with about ten babies. You can see a photo of the pasture/area I have in mind for your dome at www.maplecorners.com. About the area where the llamas are grazing. If you are interested, please pm me for more details.

Thanks for all the nice offers! I'm going to hold out and hope to find someone in the area I'm aiming for. If nothing comes up I may head to Mexico for the summer and practicar mi espanol and try again this winter.

Gypsy,

Are you taking reservations? LOL...I retire in exactly 3 years and am building in N Ark. I will need exactly what you offer. While I'll be not in a position to offer pay I don't think, the house will be plenty big enough and currently has plans incorporated for a in-law suite with seperate entrance, mini-kitchen..etc that you'd be welcome to. Seriously...you taking reservations that far out by chance? Getting started is intimidating and an experienced mind is a terrible thing to waste!

I have spots (mountains, coastal waterway, Big lake, rural countryside) to squat with no amenities should you elect to come East of the big muddy. These are timber holdings. Nothing expected in return other than to leave the places as you found them.

Do you like children? It is too bad you aren't willing to head east, I am in AL.

I could use the help and someone to teach me some of those things that you are good at, but not sure that you would be able to find work around here.

I've got a really nice spot up in the woods that you could set up your dome, we could throw you an extension cord and probably even figure out how to get you on the high speed.

Good luck.

Just for the record, I love your free spirit! Good luck. I hope you find what you're looking for. I'm too far east, but would love to learn from you.

How about southern oregon? Not coastal, lol. Google Cave Junction. We get hi 90's-100+ in the summer. We get just enough of a marine breeze to cool the evenings down perfectly. My dh works away from home 3 weeks out of the month and theres just stuff im not physically able to do.
We have 3 acres of pasture and critters and garden.

Hi, while I do indeed like children, I've raised all I intend to raise I'm definately heading into Grandma mode. Play with em and send em home. I do tend to collect/semi-adopt kiddos as I travel. Thanks for the offer!

Absolutely! That's the point really. I go where the weather is nice. In my mature years...lol...I find I don't like extreme heat or extreme cold. Since I have been all over the eastern half of the united states when I drove a big rig I'm trying to see the other half. I'm hoping someone in Arizona is going to need me this winter!
