Talking Free Goodies In Your Garbage???

We've all probably sprouted an avocado seed at one time or another, even if it never turned into an actual avocado tree. Turns out a new friend has been doing wondrous things with her garbage seeds and greens for quite some time:

FRUITS: House plants from mango, papaya, kiwi, pomegranate, and citrus seeds, and pineapple tops
VEGETABLES: House plants from carrot, turnip, and beet tops
EDIBLES: From garlic and onion bulbs that have started to sprout, raw peanuts, uncooked popcorn kernels, dry beans, and tomato seeds

I would love to hear any stories about this kind of "recycling" from garbage and your compost pile!

one year, well after christmas, I was amazed to find the pineapple top from a holiday pineapple looking rather perky in the compost pile. I left it there till spring - it had rooted itself quite nicely. I planted it out in the garden and it grew to be a lovely addition to my summer garden! never fruited but I didn't care.

Right now, I have two glasses that each hold a sweet potato that had started to sprout. I stuck toothpicks in the potatoes to keep their top out of the water and submerged each in a glass of water, and now I have green sweet potato vines running everywhere. How's that for a grade school experience? LOL, I remember doing this same thing when I was in school as part of a science experiment.
