Seasoned wood prices...NY

I just was cruising Craig's List and noticed an ad for seasoned wood, cut and split. They are asking $65 for a face cord and $185 for a full cord. What are the prices in your area?

I'm in Southwestern New Hampshire.

It is illegal to sell face cords in New Hampshire.

A full cord, cut, split delivered is about $150-$180 green and $175-$250 seasoned. My sister got some green for $125, but it was really, really green.

So I'd say you're doing OK.

I recently have been inquiring about getting 4-5 full cords. One person is selling tops from a lumbering job at 130. In other words, it is on his property and he is just cleaning it up. Another one quoted 150. Neither one has delivered anything yet, so we will see...I ordered 4 cords last season from a "friend" and never got it delivered...at 120.

We purchased 5 cords of green wood this spring for $185/cord. It was very green, mind you. The seller that we purchased from just recently raised his price to $210/cord for green.

It's true, though. Cordwood must be sold by the 128 cubic foot cord, or fraction thereof.

And while I don't think much of superfluous government regulation (see my sig line) I rather like this one. It is no burden on legitimate sellers, and greatly constrains the "creativity" of the dishonest.

Even the most hardcore Libertarians usually accept that it is a legitimate government function to establish a uniform system of weights and measures.

Agreed, there must be uniform weights and measures. Where I live a face cord is generally 1/3 of a full cord.....4'x8'x16". I have seen some 'face cords' sold as 4'x8'x12", or 20",or 24". As always, let the buyer beware.

It's about $250/cord here for seasoned oak and pecan. Some sellers say prices are going to double by the end of the year.

think about it like this if it takes 700 gallons of fuel oil to heat the house or 5 to 7 cord

this last years contract price for fuel 2.63 a gallon X 700 =1841
this years contract price of 4.25 X 700 =2975

5 cord at 200 = 1000 not to bad even at the high end price it is less than fuel oil
5 cord is an estimate 700 gallons is faily close to what we use in a year
i have 4 cord cut and split , with more to split and several more trees to cut
but i tell you i sure havent figured out how somone would get rich selling cord wood not withthe time , gas and equiptment it takes to cut , split and haul

i can tell you that i wish my trailer had heavier duty axel 1 ton of wet wood is not that much.

you have to watch this, a face cord is piled 4 ft high, 8 ft long, but could be 12, 16,18 or even 24 inches wide.
I sold all my wood last yr for a 100 a cord picked up at my yd, i didn't touch it. this yr i may hold on to it and burn some.

sorry i didn't know that this info was already posted.

The guy I bought from last year quoted me $210 per cord again this year. I hope that by delivery time he won't forget and charge more. My heating oil company still hasn't come up with a contract price for next year.

from what i hear through different companies where i live is that there won't be any lock in prices this year. that tells me that the crooks aren't only in big oil, they are also in the little guy with 2 trucks. I've seen a local company raise the price 3 times in one day because the price of crude was going up on the market so when the price went to a 132., he was selling oil that he bought when the price was 112. most of the time in the past 4 yrs, even the small companies making home deliveries were making over 1.50 a gallon which isn't to bad when your peddling about a million gallons a yr.
Even the gypsie discount seller with one truck and no storage tanks and no service who have to go to the docks and load their truck a couple times a day were clearing over 300 thousand last year if they put out one load a day. but it's a long dry summer so they have to make it when they can and every month i see a new truck with a different name on it so there is lots of compition

A standard face cord (which there isn't really such a monster) is 1/3 of a cord but it isn't leagally interprted. A cord as we know is 4' x 4' x 8' stacked, but like stranger said, a face cord could be 12, 16, 18 or even 22 inches long.
If you can go and look at the wood that will be brought to your house you may come out to the good if you find someone selling a face cord that is 22 inches long. That would only be 2" short of a half cord.

I wish I could get a truck down in the back here because there is some great fire wood that's mostly hard wood laying down there already and is already dried. I would be super happy to sell one cord a week.

I bought 20 face cords a few weeks ago from a dealer based in near Watertown (Phil's Firewood in Burrville 315-783-5205 in case anyone is interested in them) and it was $64 a face cord delivered ($192 a full cord) and the price was going to go up again that week because of diesel prices, although I see they are still advertising at the same rate as when I bought. This is green wood.

Can folks at least put in the state they live when they post to threads like this? It doesn't mean anything when you say "here where I am" when we don't know have a ballpark idea of where you are.

I think we should haul "Big Wood" in front of congress for taking advantage of people and institute a windfall tax on them!

I'm sure that I don't have to remind most firewood burners of this. Not only is the volume of wood important (eg, full cord, face cord, rick, etc) but the specie of firewood is equally important (eg, oak, birch, poplar, pine, etc) in determining value.
