Animal feed question?

I was not sure were to post this and if this is not the spot I am sorry. I have a quick question. With all of the water problems that there has been in Iowa. I am sure that feed cost are going to go up even more. I was wondering if I could buy a bulk amount of feed and have it stored in several feed bins how long would it last. I want to buy a mixed feed of ground homminy, corn gluetin pellets, wheat mids. I can buy it for around 145$ a ton but I have to buy 6 tons to get it delivered. I don't have but around 14 head of cattle and that includes calves right now, but We do feed out some pigs with this feed also. How long do you think this type of feed would last before it started to mold?
Thanks

I am of the opinion that it shouldn't mold unless it gets damp. In a good tight bin that shouldn't happen.

By using already processed feed I don't think it will store as well (palatable) as long whole grain would. I'm not familiar with ground hominy and corn gluten pellets so can't give an opinion as to what might be storage longevity.

I do believe you are right that prices will indeed go up.

Weevils may be a problem. I think you can mix diatomaceous earth with it to prevent bugs.

I would try to prepay the feed at the feed store and pick it up myself as I used it.Some companies do this and some will not.You are taking a big chance of having your feed go bad otherwise.
