Skinnin Cedars

DS snapped a couple pics while skinnin cedars... figured it was safer (and easier on the ribs) than stringing the rabid fence today.

How long do each of those take [ones in pics]? Are you just going to use them for fence post?

Cheers,
Huck

Well.. we cut 25, and it took us almost 2 hours. We kept running into half rotted trees! UGGGH! What a waste of time!
To skin the 25, it took my DS and I about 30-40 minutes (including cleaning up the pile of bark peelings).

Yes, they are future fence posts.

Were you wearing flip-flops?

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Excellent looking poles. We are planning to build a weekend cabin and are planning to use cedar posts for porch posts.

We use the goats to peel cedars, pine etc....my dad makes some awesome walking sticks from the skinny cedars...

We also dont peel our cedars for fence posts....the goats get to them eventually! Our cow critters also learn to peel from the goats!

Do you have any basketmakers to use the bark?

No, no basketmakers here. Maybe I'll give it a try. Anything special that needs to be done to the cedar?

I was planning to let it dry and use it for kindlin this winter.
