Cantera stone Fountain

I am getting ready to install a Cantera stone fountain in my courtyard and have been wondering - do the sections of the fountain just stack up one on the other with weight of the wet Cantera Stone holding it together or are they mortared together. If they were mortared how would one get down to the pump if there were a problem?? OR do I use a hard galvanized pipe up the center and the pipe keeps the sections in place?? Or copper pipe, OR????

Most stone fountains just stack up and you insert a pipe down thru the center to the pump/water basin. (or a tube, depending on how you go)

the stone is mighty heavy and it just sits there.

some fountains have a lip/receiver on the pieces so that they will align correctly. bottom piece has a lip that comes up around the center hole, next piece has a corresponding recess that the lip fits into.
