Training livestock to an electric fence- how?

There will soon be horses, llamas and goats here, all in electric fencing for the first time ever.
Should it be baited with molasses, or how would you go about this?

Thanks very much.

Best way to train them is to put some feed, hay or grain, on the far side of the fence. A few attempts at getting it will train most animals in under five minutes. You want to teach them that it is a barrier, if you bait the fence itself it teaches them to fear just the wire.

you dont have to train them to it, they will learn really fast just make sure its working before turning them loose. get you some of the bright colored ribbon "you can find it at the farm store where they sell elec fence stuff" and tie on the fence about every 8 feet and that way they can see it "the wire", other wise they might run through it.

and make sure its installed right with a horse & lama it might need to be higher like 4 feet off the ground. and with goats it needs to be close to the ground with 3 to 4 strands. i have my goat fence 4 strands first one about 6 inches off the ground and then the other 3, 8 to 10 inches spacing above the first never had one to get out yet.

you might wanna do something like this

------------------------<-48"

------------------------<-32"

------------------------<-6"
