Unhappy Work hard - get sick

I moved recently and spent a week doing more physical labor than I am used to, but still probably less than a lot of active people do in a normal day. And instead of building up some muscle what happens? I get sick. My dad was helping me and he was just getting over something, so I'm guessing that with all the extra stress and sweat that I wasn't able to fend off his germs.

I have been miserable with this cold/flu all week and barely able to unpack. I don't think I would be able to homestead very well if I have such a lousy immune system. I had all kinds of sicknesses when I was a kid and even pneumonia. I kind of despair ever being an active person and able to have some land of my own.

No real point to this thread other than to be sad that I'm such a wimp and guessing survival of the fittest would not include me...

I went through the exact same thing when we moved once. So I really know how you feel. My husband and I both got the flu and it was horrible. It's supposed to be an exciting adventure and you want everything done "just so" and you don't have any energy AT ALL. It's overwhelming enough when you feel good. We survived and you will too Don't be so hard on yourself. Moving is a physical and emotional roller coaster...nobody survives unscathed.

Don't beat yourself up over this. Your immune system was weakened by the stress of moving. Once you get established you'll build your strength back up and probably find ypourself healthier than before.

If you are unused to such activity you could also be suffering to what's reffered to as overtraining. Add in a little moving stress.
Your body needs a little time to recharge is all.
You should feel better in a couple days.

That'll be $80, or $35 co-pay.

We are contemplating a move, and I have been concerned about the same thing.

We are in our late 40's early 50's, we will be traveling @ 9hrs to the new location, and the house needs a lot of TLC, a large portion that we will be doing ourselves.

I am concerned this is going to kick our butts.

You have to, or should have, babied yourself. Changes are stressful, and too much stress lowers your resistance to other things. Take a look at http://www.thegreenguide.org/article/health/stress

yes, i agree with everyone else. I was a very sickly child and adult. I think i got sick too when i first moved to my first real property and was disappointed. It passed and as I worked harder I got stronger and was sick less and less. I don't want to jinx myself, but i'm almost always well now. You'll get there. Sometimes getting sick just means you need to give your body a chance to rest and recover.

So, you changed the water, you changed the location, you were under stress (happy stress or sad stress, your body still reacts!), you moved heavy weights, and then you got hit with a big load of germs.

Of COURSE you got sick! So would half of America!!!!!!!!!

And, think. Your Father had it too, and he has probably been less busy than you!!!!!!!
