It looks like it might have some blue heeler in there to me, but I'm no expert, by any means.
Have you thought of posting this on the pets forum? There are lots of people over there with a GREAT deal of knowledge about dogs.

Border collie mix?
Doesn't look like an Austrailian Cattle dog to me.

Australian cattle dog and "heeler" are the same breed. It's hard to tell from those pics, but he looks like one to me. Do his ears stand up? Most breeders dock their tails (in Am.) but he has the proper tail to be a heeler.

Looks to me like he could be Border Collie and ACD/Heeler, but there's really no way to know for sure, a lot of different mixes will look very similar to one another.

That is a 100% mutt. LOL Probably a little cattle dog, but just as likely a little bit of catahoula and probably a little pit as well. Pounds sometimes seem to go by color and nothing else, so they are saying cattledog because of the freckles on his legs. His build suggests it, but if you let dogs do their thing without human intervention, that is what you'll get in a couple of generations
The important question is do you like him? Do you think you can outsmart and out stubborn him? Can you keep up with his activity level?
Nothing wrong with a dog whose mother never married.

Does he bark with an Australian accent? Otherwise it's all just guess work.
Hes' probably just the typical American Mutt

Likely part or purebred border collie. One way to get a better idea is to take him to an experienced border collie trainer. After a few sessions, the border collie breeding should show through depending on how he's bred. They work different from the australian cattle dogs. He doesn't look to me like cattle dog. He sure is cute though. The dog pictured below is purebred border collie.

And nothing wrong with mutts! Some of the most trainable dogs I've ever owned were mutts... and they often have more congenial personalities.

looks like a border collie mix for sure...
if you have energy, space and a purpose for this dog, get him - you won't be disappointed. border collies are smart and very trainable but need exercise and a purpose otherwise you will have a ton of chewed things, large holes and spend your free time bringing him home from his adventures.

australian cattle dogs hold there tail down and close to there body. Go to yahoo search and click image and type in australian cattle dog. You will get lots of pic's I have a australian cattle dog also know as a blue healer and a australian shephard. Healers are wound a bit tight and don't do real well with children till they are 3 years old or better. They naturaly want to nip and it takes about 3 years to get them to control it.

I have to agree with the Australian Cattle dog (which is a heeler) mixed with something. My first thought was mixed with Border Collie, but I don't think you'll ever know for sure. That's between him and God.
The most important thing about adopting, is that the two of you get along and the dog will fit in with your lifestyle. Good luck. He's a cute one.

Aussie Shepherds are a different breed than the heeler/ACD

Sure looks a lot like a Border Collie with something mixed in that makes its tail curl up like that.

Sorry Seeing the "basenji" there reminded me of the infamous " Dogs in Elk" story....

Hard to tell from the pics but I'd say part BC more than it being part ACD
