No idea on free building materials, but the labor of putting it up could be done by hosting a friends/family/community/church outdoor barn raising, complete with food, games, prizes, etc. Course, that depends on how well you're liked by these people as to whether they actually show up or not. You're in Amish country so you could ask them.

Trade trades? Do either of you have a skill you could trade with a carpenter, etc.? Keep an eye on Craigslist in the Western Kentucky barter section. Or post an ad yourself. Never know what someone may trade for what you have.

You may want to check out and see if there is a "Freecycle" group for your area. You would really be surprised what people are willing to just give away!

The website is freecycle(dot)org. I have connected with many local people and have come away with some great stuff like windows, doors, metal roofing, leftover shingles and scrap wood. Just post what you want and keep your fingers crossed!

Check with Moving companies, They sometimes have A few large wooden crates. And look at larger Machine shops. They get NEW equiptment in wooden crates, Some are 24 feet long and 8 foot or so high. And 10 feet wide! So if you see A lowbay trailer near you going into A industrial park with A load follow him. And ask the place where he is dropping if you can have the crate!!

Joyce, I was going to suggest Freecycle, but someone beat me to it. If you decide to do the barn/garage raising thing, let me know, we'll be there! I may not be the strongest, but Daddy raised me right, I'm a good go'fer!
