Do we have a First Aid thread?

Is there a thread here with first aid information, especially from a prepping point of view?

I'm thinking of a list of easily purchased items and what uses they would have --- epsom salts as an example. I always thought they were good for soaking sprains, but I understand they could have other first aid uses?

If there isn't a thread with this information, can someone point me to a source, or can we start a list?

Thanks in advance!

I think epsom salts have something to do about preventing convulsions, but that's real hazy information. It might give you a direction to start looking though. I use epsom salts in the garden on the tomatoes and in the hydroponic lettuce.

Sailors are always putting together medical kits for sailboats, you might see what's in their kits since they plan on being days away from medical help for long periods of time.

Start the breathing, stop the bleeding and make them lay down. After that, I dunno what you do. Chicken soup, I guess!

Epsom salts are also good for laxative use, as a fertilizer, and for soaking sore muscles.

Epsom salts can be used to soak an infected wound to draw out the infection. Whether it's the salts or the hot water they're dissolved in that does the job is up for debate, but the old timers did that.

There's a great prepping website: www.nitro-pak.com that has lots of medical supplies like suture/surgical kits, trauma first aid kits, dental medic kits, etc. if you want to REALLY prep. I've seen a thread about a site that sells common antibiotics and antivirals without a prescription as well, though I can't come up with it off the top of my head.

You might want to check in with Survival and Preparedness forum (lots of info there about items that should be in your prep, also first aid suitcase). And the Alternative Health forum has many people with knowledge of items from your common household pantry that can be used for first aid.

Thanks for the info. I did a general search on the site for "first aid" and really didn't come up with what I was looking for. I'll look some more, though.
