when,where,why, and how

when, where, why, and how to use lime (sp?) My pop uses to use it in the garden I think. I have some friends that use it in the chicken coop. Can someone tell me all of its uses? Thanks JIL

Get a soil test from your Ag Extension dept., then you can determine the how and why. Lime is uded to adjust the Ph of the soil to maximize the plants ability to use the nutrients available. Then you also decide whether to use pelletized or powdered. The powdered is what you've heard used in animal pens/coops for killing parasites.

it depends on what area of the country you're in, just give a call to a farmer neighbor, usually not very much and not very often where i live, and some crops like peppers want sour ground..I don't think anything you put on now is going to be in solution this yr anyway, i think you should put in on in the fall.

You can also use it in composting, depending on the content of your compost bins.
