6 Year Old G.E./Hotpoint Fridge
(This may belong in a different forum, but seemed like the best choice at the time.)
Well, my fridge sure is CLEAN!
And do you know why? It's because Nick and I took the WHOLE fridge apart to see why it was all drippy and the food in the fridge was warm, even though the compressor was on, and the food in the freezer was nice and cold.
So we took the fridge apart, tried to see what was going on. Nick ran some electric diagnostics (making sure there was current between the fan and source). Then he did some research on the Interwebs to see if there were any issues peculiar to our model of fridge.
He did indeed find something.
G.E./Hotpoint had a recall AND a class action suit against them because they made a big mistake with the motherboard on the fridge. And they didn't notify all the people who bought the fridges with the bad motherboards. But now that the class action suit is settled, G.E. doesn't have to make things right with the people who did not know that G.E./Hotpoint had the problem with the refrigerators.
We had to fork out $130 for a new motherboard, which I installed today. When we talked to the woman at Automatic Appliance (great place for parts, BTW), she said that they'd sold over 2000 of the boards in the past year. (They ship all over the country.) And she said their other store had shipped out close to 3000 boards. This tells me that more people than we were not informed of the problem.
While I'm more than a little irritated that we weren't notified of the recall, I have to say that I am glad we were able to discover what was wrong, fix it ourselves, NOT have to buy a new fridge....
And the fridge really does look nice now that it's all cleaned out.
(still trying to figure out why in the world there were 5 open jars of pickles in there...)
