Cold Weather In the Forecast For Sunday Night

As far south as the Texas Hill Country is predicted for temps dropping to the mid 30's (record cold) on Sunday night/Monday Morning. Frost is possible in low lying areas. I would suspect those of you in southern Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Northern Arizona may get a freeze. North of these areas will likely get a freeze.

I wish all we were going to get was a frost. We have 5 to 8 inches of snow in the forecast for overnight tonight and another 1 to 3 inches in the forecast for tomorrow. The only good part is that nothing has really greened up or bloomed yet so there shouldn't be any great impact on fruit, berries, nuts, or garden plants.

Remember the old saying......thunder in February, frost in April. They are predicting low 40's for us, so hopefully the garden will be safe. Hail is what scares me the most, have had several total wipe-outs over the years from rain/wind/hail storms.

Well carp, same thing happened last spring about this time and we didn't harvest a fruit, berry, or a nut at all. Dang weather!

We got a frost yesterday morning. It was forecast to 38 on the news. That means frost here.
Got up at 5:45, the porch roof was covered in frost and the car windshields. Looked out at the garden and sure enough.
I got my grubs on and proceded to string out 200' of hose, turned on the water, hose is froze. I stomped and twisted that hose for 30 minutes to get enough of a trickle to thaw it and spray things down.
Got it hosed off before the sun was all the way up and all is good and green at 12 noon.
I expect to have to do it for 2 more mornings.
The hose will be drained and positioned this time.

It is 39 here this morning.

The storm last Wed. wiped out our tomatoe plants. We got some more Friday to replace them. Haven't got them in the ground yet.

It's 11º here at the moment with with about 6 inches left from the 11 inches of snow we got on Friday night and all day on Saturday. Hopefully it'll all be gone by tomorrow afternoon, then maybe the grass will finally get a chance to turn green and the trees can begin leafing out.

Even tho it's a lot of work, we'll be covering the blueberry bushes. We didn't get one blueberry last year, in fact several bushes died from the hard 3-day freeze last spring. Hopefully this won't be nearly as bad.

Well it was 98F here yesterday. I had to plug in the fan in the chicken coup for the season to provide air for the birds. Had to take a swim in the afternoon just to cool off.

I'm so glad I've waiting to put my seedlings in the ground. We are forecast for 39 tonight and 35 tomorrow night.

Too bad we already shut down the furnace!

Here in southern Ohio, It has been struggling to get into the low 50s' all day. Tonight (Monday) we are supposed to get a hard frost with lows about 30. My fruit trees are finally in blooms, it's too cold for pollinators and the freeze tonight may kill off the fruit flower blooms. Then tomorrow it will be cold again ..... Another year with no fruit on the trees. I had this same problem last year and only had a total of 5 apples and zero peaches when I should have had thousands .....
