Was it shell corn or cob corn?

Does your tractor supply do price comparison. If there is a place that sells it for less they will match the price. My TSC charges 12.99 for layer crumble but the mill about 15 miles away sells it for 7.99. They match that price and I don't have to drive the extra miles.

I have to ask - what is the difference in deer corn and cow/sheep/horse/goat/chicken corn? And why do people feed deer? My deer eat everything including hay, any grain spilled by the horses or the chickens..like rats with long legs and a fluffy tail.

Why on earth one would feed a deer is simply beyond my understanding..but then again, this morning I had 14 standing in the yard wagging tails and eating last years acorns..

danged pests.

Lots of corn is toxic to deer and turkeys so it has to be tested to make sure it is ok to feed them.

Sorry but I have to call BS on this comment!!! Can you explain what the tests are and how it is toxic, especially to turkeys? I know how it can be "toxic" to deer, but want to hear your rationale for the comment.

Corn can sometimes have a problem with mycotoxin contamination. If it's sold through commercial channels for human consumption or even regular animal feed it has to be tested. Over a certain parts per million it can't be sold for human consumption or even for some types of animal feed.

I'm not sure what the allowable mycotoxin limit is for deer corn though. I know I have seen some tagged with survey results too high to be allowed for human consumption. Birds are particularly susceptible to some types of mycotoxins (aflatoxin) which is a big part of how we came to be aware of their danger.

Twenty parts per billion is the aflatoxin limit for human, poultry, and dairy animals.

.....Alan.

In Texas if it test over a certain amount of toxin it can not be sold for Turkey or Deer feed. Call it BS but that is the law. I can not explain the test or levels I feed it I do not test it. I have seen feed stores shut down for selling corn that had toxins above a certain amount. Here is a link to Texas A&M with information. http://plantpathology.tamu.edu/aflatoxin/regulatory.htm

Hmmmmmmm.....
The deer and turkeys around here sure do eat the heck out of the corn in the fields. If it's toxic to them, they sure ain't showing it....

Deer are just a much of a livestock income here in Texas as anything you can raise. If we do not supplement feed lots of them will die as we have real extremes in forage in dry times.
