Where is your flour milled?

I know many mill their own at home but I'm talking about your store bought flour. We had a flour mill in our town that they closed and destroyed about 10 years ago now they're closing the White Lilly flour mill in Knoxville that's been there 125 years. Makes you start thinking about where something as basic as flour comes from and just how far it will be shipped.

Husband works at a flour mill here in SW MO and they are going to be closing within a year too.

I know in Nova Scotia that a lot of our grain comes in from overseas - i.e. the Ukraine. We also do get Canadian grains, but who knows what is what? I'd far rather buy Canadian grown grain than the imported stuff. We have rules and regs in place in Canada (and the U.S.) that limit the types, quantities and nature of chemicals that can be used in our food chain. These rules just do not apply to imported foodstuffs.

Neolady most of your corn in NS comes from within about 30 miles of me. We're a long way from any major processors here so most of the output of the local elevator goes east on a train, unlike most other corn areas in Ontario.

Not having a local mill and sometimes wanting extremely fresh flour we go to Whole Foods. You can mill your flour right there in the store from a selection of organic wheats from Montana. There is also talk of a co-operative organic flour mill starting up again in Eastern Washington. Years ago you used to be able to buy flour directly from Centennial Mills in Seattle.
King Arthur is a good substitute if you can't get locally milled, they are very picky about rotating their flour for the finest and freshest. Stone Buhr is also a good brand for freshness as they are stone ground and can go rancid if kept in the warehouse or on the shelf too long.

Mine comes from not too very far away . We are in SW Mo and it is milled in Hudson Kansas. Great quality flour great price.

For my white flour I have no idea. Where ever Gold Medal mills their all-purpose flour.

The whole-wheat that makes up most of our flour usage is milled on my kitchen counter.
