Soapmaker - give some thought to sharing the travel expense with some other homesteaders between South Mississippi and Buffalo Point ... and make plans to attend?
Hugs,

Thanks Laura -- I hope the others who mentioned they were planning on coming on the poll thread find this thread soon so we'll have a better idea of who will be there with us.
I would like to learn your soap making method.

Frenchy -- It will be good to see you no matter how much time you have to spare for the rest of us....think we should warn Caitlyn or let her be surprised?

Okay Laura, I won't tell
ozarkcat -- Are the moccasins something we could make without mechanical power? If so, could you list the materials we would need to bring to try our hand and making some while you are there to help? It will be great to see the baby, you and Eric.

Sure, about 2 feet square of leather (buckskin, elk skin, pig splits, suede, etc - no vegetable tanned or stiff leather), a glover's needle, possibly an awl (if you get a lightweight leather, you won't need this), a thimble and heavy thread. I know about four patterns fairly well, they're the first four types on this page:

Thanks Cat -- I'm not sure I have a glove needle in my collection of needles -- but I do have a large and varied collection I have everything else but the leather...I think I can do this
Thanks for the "bump" Laura -- unless one of us is coming here a lot without posting...there must be atleast a couple more people who are interested going my the number of "look sees"
While I have your attention, I'm needing ideas on what food I should bring...I know 1
promised Boleyn we're do biscuits together so that's already on the list. Would you ask Jessie what he's like to try this time? Or what he's favorite entry is? ...

I'll bring some fry bread mix again - seemed to go over well last time . . .
Marlene, if you get a relatively lightweight leather, you can actually sew it with regular needles, just need to use a metal thimble to help shove it through the leather. If you need a cheap & easy form of leather, you can get the chamois cloths for drying a car with from Walmart or an auto parts place. They're not quite as tough as some of the buckskins, but do fairly well.

Laura -- I knew there was a reason I liked cooking with your kids This time I think I'll make chicken/sausage gumbo for Friday night -- after Jesse learns to make a roux he'll have cajun cooking down pat.
Maybe we can talk LaDonna into bringing the cast iron waffle iron she got last fall and Bowen (sorry about the prior spelling )and I can make waffles.
I have a new pork chop recipe I think I'm going to use for Saturday's noon meal.
Cat -- I never would have thought of getting a chamois cloth, will do that if I can't find and leather before now and May 30th. I've loved moccasins ever since I was a little girl. I've long yearned for some of those knee high ones...but retail prices have kept me from ever buying any. I am excited about the possiblity of making my own. Somewhere in my collection of things to do I have a pattern for bead work
Food and crafts....now I'm really getting excited.

Speaking of strawberries...Wal Mart had those huge California ones on sale this week...and I usually do not buy those there because they often don't have much taste, and their texture is usually woody -- but as I was walking passed they smelled soooo good...so I decided what the hay. They aren't Louisiana Strawberries (the best of the best in my opinion) but they were tasty.
Cat -- Husband has been checking online for leather for me -- he's having sticker shock -- is $20/square foot normal? I started to ask him if it was some exotic animal.
Only about 6 more weeks until we meet again, right?
