What to do with a black labrador retreiver?

DW went out to get the mail this morning and found our 6 year old black labrador dead on the street. It looks like she'd been hit by a car!

The whole family is heartbroken! Our 8 month old DD misses her dear doggie.

So the question is what can we do with him?

I can imagine we can tan the hide and make a nice blanket for DD.

There's not much meat on him, but maybe the chickens will have the carcass?

Aw friend, I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. What a shame. It never occured to me to use the remains of any of our old dogs (we just bury them, generally), but my son did save a tuft of hair from each of them, plus any puppy teeth they spit out as babies. Again, I'm awful sorry to hear it. Hope the baby feels better soon, and you too.

Perhaps you could tan the hide, sell it, and then use the money to buy a leash for the next puppy.

or fence.

i cannot imagine a child being happen with a tanned hide of their pet. but to each their own.

if an animal is too big to bury, we either take it to a remote spot and drop it off a cliff or take it to the dumpster.

It would take a rather large flock of chickens to finish off an entire retriever before it began to smell.

You could can it, I suppose.

Probably make a cool hat for your kids from the hide.

I have lost many dogs over the years, loved them all, and the way I dispose of dead animals is to put them on top of my big brush pile and burn them. I keep them alive in my memory only.

I tried spinning the fur from a dead newfoundland once...did a golden retreiver, too

You could put it in your catapult and practice your aim for when the mutant zombies attack. Ds did this with a dead possum. He would have preffered skunk, but I told him he'd have to sleep outside and it was January

freeze dry or maybe taxidermy--

our creek is deep enough right now that we could float a dog downstream on a burning raft...if need be.

this is an April Fools thread, right?

Yeah? Well there's Halloween too!

Best to keep your cow locked up that night this year, or you'll have to try and figure out how to get her off the roof in the morning!

If it were any day other than April 1st, we'd bury the beast and plant a tree above as a memorial marker.

This, being April 1st and all, I think getting a taxidermist to make the deceased into a mailbox might be a better plan. Fill him full of cement, too, so someday he could return the favor and take out the car that got him when they came back for a return trip.
