Bread Machine Died Today

My bread machine died today. I have had for a long time and used it a lot. I saw some horizontal ones on the internet and wonder how good they work. Has anyone had any success with this kind. Please don't suggest that I make bread the traditional way. I really suck at it and I don't have a lot of spare time to devote to this. I wish I did. Such a sad day. I loved my bread machine.

If you're really wed to a bread machine then I'll suggest a Zojirushi. It's about the best there is in the field.

But with a little practice you can probably make bread without one. If time is an issue mixers will help a lot. I use a Bosch Universal for my regular weekly bread and can make up to five loaves at a time with it.

Down in the Cooking forum there have been a lot of bread machine threads.

If you go there and do a search, you will find a heck of a lot of information.

I'd be lost without my bread machine!

That pretty much said it all

I agree, if you want a great machine Zojirushi is it! It's a little more expensive, but if you ONLY make bread with the machine, it's definitely worth the money.

I make bread the old-fashioned way and use the bread machine. It depends on what kind of bread I'm making, how much time I have and how bad my hands are. Sometimes I just use it to do the mixing and kneading, then shape it and bake it in the oven, like for dinner rolls, hamburger buns or cinnamon rolls.

Sorry about the "death", lol, and good luck!

I have one that does the horizontal loaf...and wish that my vertical one was still around. The new one makes up to a 2 1/2 lb loaf but the slices even on a 2 lb loaf are huge. I have since started using the machine for the mixing and 1st rise then finishing the rest normally.

Look at yard sales and thrift stores. People bought them when they were the "in" thing and most are used once or not at all. I've paid less than $5.00 for my back-ups.

Good Luck!

I go through about one a year because I make at least one loaf a day. I killed a Breadman in a year, same with a few garage sale ones, and I can't remember the other. I've never had the one a few people have named but my current one is a Walmart $30 special and it has lasted longer than any other (I think it is going on 15 months). It makes the horizontal loafs. I don't care either way. It works as well as any of the others I've had.

I wish I'd read this thread before I went to Austin. There's one in storage up there that I need to get rid of!!

Can you wait a week or so?

Mine started heating from the very beginning and overheats and I have no idea how to fix it so I am looking for another one because I only use it for the dough settings because when I mix it by hand it is not as light. Kneading it for a long time may make it elastic but it works in too much flour and it is not as light.
In the Summer I don't like to turn on the AC till July so I don't use the oven at all.
It is either stove top or grill cooking. I bake the bread in the machine then. It does not taste as good as oven baked but it is still better than store bought.

I would love to try a solar oven but haven't found one or figured out how to make one yet.
