growing wheat in northern lp michigan

This is my first post and I am going to just jump right in!

Does anyone have experience with growing a small patch of wheat for personal consumption in a northern climate?

Another wheat question: is there a way to refine wheat at home to make white flour? I like to cook with both.

Are you planning Spring Wheat or Winter Wheat? Both will grow just fine in northern Michigan. I think most of the Winter Wheat grown in Michigan makes good pasta. Find out what wheat is the type you want, then pick a variety.

You need a grain mill.

Soft white wheat will make white flour without being refined. Hard red wheat will make that brown colored flour. Soft white wheat can be had in both fall and spring varieties.
