Any good air tight one is a good way to heat your home. You can burn it wide open and heat a large area or turn it down and heat just a little as the weather changes. I have had a box stove but you can only control it a little but with an airtight one you can control it much more. They are not cheap but you can control it more. There are many brands but any one will do for heat.

Where are you located and do you have a source for wood? We use both wood and coal depending on the temp as to witch we use. If we had to buy wood propane would prob be cheaper as a pickup load here is going for 45 to 65 dollars. Coal is 45 dollars a ton if we go get it. Good luck finding your stove. Sam

I am in the N. Ga. mtns. plenty of hard wood trees here. I just wondered what would be a good brand name to buy, and if I should build me a cement block title chimney or just run the pipe out the top of the roof. Any advanages in one over the other?
Years ago I had a Asley box type, and was wondering if the cast iron open room type have any advanages for the extra cost.
In the past I was afraid one of the kids might fall on it and get seriously burned. Any thoughts?

I've got a Vermont Castings woodstove. My kids grew up with it and survived, adults are the only ones that get burned. I had it hooked to a masonary chimney in one house and have a straight up thru the roof metal chimney now. Metal chimney works great and it's not hard to install. I would look at Consolidated Dutchwest as they made good stoves. I haven't looked at any in a long time since I haven't needed one. I did have a Suburban cabinet style stove in my shop. It worked good but was more of a wood eater then a wood heater.

I have a consolidated dutchwest convection heater. It is very expensive but well worth it. It heats my house and I can cook a pot of soup or something on top if I want. It comes in three sizes and I have the middle size.

Hi Barn Builder
Check out Craigslist for your local area. I took a quick peek and found this stove
http://atlanta.craigslist.org/for/621837104.html

If you're buying used from an individual I would think you could get a really good quality stove for 300-400 dollars. I myself have recently bought two stoves, a cheap box stove for 100$. I got this from a neighbor.

Check the Lehman website stove section. They sell good quality stoves. If you find something on Craigslist, you can cross-reference it on Lehman's or the manufacturer's website. One advantage of buying that way is the seller will probubly give you all the stovepipe with it.
