Barb Wire Question

I have an opportunity to buy 15 rolls (1320 feet per roll) of 12 1/2 gauge 4 prong barb wire at a real good price. The issue I have is that the rolls have been sitting in a barn for 10-12 years. Think there might be an issue or ?. I'm wondering about brittleness or problems like that.

Thanks in advance.

Mike

If kept dry so no rust or corrosion, and the galvanizing looks good, I would take a chance. Shouldn't be any problems.

Hey.

If it ain't rusty, buy it. If kept dry, the wire would still be good a 100 years later, so don't worry about being brittle. If you're from Missouri, bend a piece back and forth;-)

Go for it. I was at an auction a couple weeks ago where a man bought 45 rolls of USED barb wire (they were full rolls) for $25 each. He was pickled tink to get them.

Rust out in the weather is the issue. No problem on stored wire inside, it doesn't go bad.

Meloc, I have some old barb wire fence I'm going to have to remove and some point. Have a nasty ball of it sitting back in some weeds (blech). On the other hand, getting these rolls at the price I'm looking at will allow me to move ahead on fencing more pasture. I'm looking at doing top and bottom strand barb and 3 or 4 strands of high tensile in the middle with at least one of the HT hot.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Mike

Following up on my original post, bought the barb wire today for $20 per roll. There was a little surface rust on spots but in basically good shape, not brittle, etc. I'm really pleased with this find.

Thanks again everyone for your responses.
