I have a buddy that hauls, and he says the best pay comes from hauling beer.

Actually, when I got loads out of Dallas back to KY, cell phone loads paid really well. And some of the lightest loads as well. Gotta love those light loads. Keeps a big truck moving along swiftly. LOL

Was that 50 miles one way? Did you get a backhaul? If not you made $3.50 a mile.
Was the cargo legal?

What's a dead head? Do you have to foot the gas bill or does the truck owner? Hopefully the truck owner!!! :P

The wife once took a load of Christmas bows from a port in NY all the way to somewhere in CA one time. Talk about a light load! She also hauled some empty soda cans from the east coast to the midwest once. A lot different than the heavy paper loads she was usually carrying at the time.

Over all I think hauling cars pays about the best.

Well I just paid $11 a mile for a delivery. Im getting 5 yard of caleechee(sp?) rock and they charged a $22 delivery fee. I live less than 2 miles from the place they bring it from. Thats crazy.

You are kidding right? Drive to work.Get out truck, inspect truck, prepare paperwork, load truck, drive to you, find out exactly how you want it, listen to you gripe about cost ,drive back, Fill tank ,cleanup equipment, inspect equipment put away equipment,do paper work, drive home?
And thats a good day when checks dont bounce and the cops dont fill their quota on you.
