City/Suburban folks, are you out there?

How many members here live in a city or suburbs in homes that either have no yard or standard size lots? I'll start; I live in the suburbs on a lot about 60'x100' lot.

We're on 75 X 100, with not much more than a big herb garden. But there's 7 acres in SC waiting for us to start our little homestead.

I'm an urban dweller, I'm not sure how big my lot is but I have a small veggie garden and alot of flowers and herbs. I just found out I can have "pet" rabbits and chickens so I am looking into getting both soon. What I can't grow in the ground I grow on my patio, in window boxes and in containers placed where ever they get the sunshine they need.

I live in the suburbs of Las Vegas. My yard is a big patch of gravel and rock with a few heat hardy plants that are on a drip system.

I was thinking about putting out a raised bed and connecting it to the irrigation system, but I am moving again this year so it doesn't make any sense.

I cannot wait to live somewhere green!!

We live on 75 x 110 or there abouts. Recent survey shows our front steps are on city property. Sure home they don't widen the road again or I'll lose the front porch.

I live on a 75x100 lot. I try to grow as much as possible in containers due to poor soil.

I'm in the burbs, too. Just a hair less than a quarter acre lot. I have two raised beds for veggies, 5 blueberry bushes, two apple trees, 4 grape vines, an ornamental koi pond, and rain barrels to water the gardens. I love my little lot and there is still more I want to do as time and funds permit.

I live just outside the city limits in a residential subdivision but we are blessed with 1 acre lots. I have a large garden patch in one corner. In addition I do have figs, apple, peach, pear, orange, satsuma, lemon, plum and bay laurel trees as well as blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, potatoes, grapes and lots of herbs. I've interplanted garlic, green onions and scallions amongst my rose beds in the front yard but all of the rest of the edibles are in my back yard for better security.

We still live the apartment life. Garden along the edge of the SMALL backyard and in pots. Still manage to have a composter and about 50 plants(mostly tomatoes and peppers etc.). My landlady is an absolute sweetheart though!

We live on a little over an acre with apple trees, a nice little garden, and a few chickens. I enjoy container gardening, makes like easier for me when time is limited.

Moongirl, your place sounds lovely.

We live in the city, have a garden, raspberries, a couple fruit trees, tapped the maple trees this year for maple syrup, compost and are anxiously waiting for the day we can move to our property out in the country.

I live on a large Suburban lot, but only an area about 60' x 40' is flat enough and gets enough sun to grow veggies.
I container garden on my raised deck, have grape vines, blackberry and raspberry bushes and stick plants everywhere I can to try and be a little self sufficient.

We're in the city too, with a yard 45'x100' terraced up a steep hill. We've got a big vegi garden and rabbits (and soon chickens!).

I'd like to see some pictures of your gardens. it would give me more ideas on what to do with this.
I live in a residential area of the city. i would say it's about 1/4 of an acre. the previous owners had mostly shrubs. i took out a few before winter came and i'm just waiting for spring.there are built in cement planters all along the front seems to be part of the basement. .i will just have to improve the soil. this place was totally redone with curving walkways just before i moved in. they need something though. i'm thinking of planting all along the walkway sides. the one thing i will keep is a beautiful hydrangea tree close to the front steps. i'm waiting for a contractor to come and put up a fence where i plan to have my edible flowers and herbs. oh and there is a large rock garden on the hill by the street .at least that is what it will be. i will plant creeping thyme and all those lovely little herbs, small bulbs and spreading flowers

i have grapes out in the country. i think i will transplant some and let them climb the fence posts. there is a large fenced in deck. i could have planters there for tomatos and such. i wont have to buy most of the stuff . perennial herbs, rhubarb, edible flowers and such which could quickly add up. yes, i certainly see possibilities. this place will look entirely different come the end of summer if all goes well. now if i could just get someone to come in and do housework!

I live on a third acre in the city but I have land outside the city where I raise my garden...so I am a mix. I have fruit trees and berries and bees on my city lot as well as my outside land.

We live in the burbs, but we're blessed to have a really large lot - 1/2 acre which is one of the main reasons we bought this house.

We do what we can in the space we can, all the while dreaming of moving to the country.

We're in the middle of a big city, but hopefully only for a few more months. We're going to start looking for land as soon as the snow melts and hope to move out to a homestead this summer. This picture gives you an idea of the size of the back yard and how I currently garden in it.

City/Suburban folks, are you out there? - Homesteading Questions

The previous ownder had an in-ground swiming pool which he then filled in with sand & rubble; so raised beds were my only option. I grow tomatoes, basil, parsley, carrots, Brussles Sprouts, zuchinni, winter squash, cucumbers, leeks, and onions.
