I've always had as good of luck with sealy as anything else. Make sure you get one with a non-prorated warranty. I spent like 900 on my last mattress and it is about 4 years old and it is looking pretty bad. It developed a sag where I sit on the edge of the bed all the time. I contacted the place where I bought it and they're ordering a brand new one. Won't cost me a dime.

I'm looking to buy a mattress too. So in my I travels over the last year I always check the mattress wherever I sleep. And usually if I get a good night sleep it always ends up to be a Jamison. Hope it turns out that way cause that is what I'll probably buy.

You need to shop when mattresses are on sale, and lie down on every one until you find one that you love. We bought a new mattress five years ago. I found one I liked, but DH insisted that I try out the pillow top. He loved it. I loved it and even paid more for it. It gets delivered, I get a great night's sleep, and he says he doesn't like it. Go figure.

I bought a Temperapedic (spelling?)about 3 yrs ago and will never sleep on an regular mattress again.
Helps with all pressure points and my back. They are an expense (queen size with foundation box spring $2000)right off but in the long run it is worth it. Also have the pillows (Swedish) that is great for keeping your neck in line with your spine.

we went to a Sleep Country USA ...they had me lay on all kinds of mattress' while my DH looked at me from a distance, sittng on another mattress......he could see where some matts. kept my shoulder and hips level, and some did not...(I was laying on my side)....the sales guy said to lay in your normal way as if sleeping.... also said Matts. beginning with S are usually good ....Sealy , Serta, & S ????? Bought mine for $900....
also see how its made, with the coils and all ......some coils are smaller, which dont break down as easy ......

I got a temperpedic type (memory foam) one at Costco last summer for $499. It is queen size and 12 inches thick. I will NEVER go back to a regular mattress again! I have RA and used to wake up all the time from pressure on my spine, hips, shoulders etc. I sleep wonderful now!!!

Over the years, we bought several different mattresses (Sealy, Simmons, etc.) from the "mattress warehouse" type stores or "Mattress World" etc. We have also bought some from furniture stores. IOHO, the furniture stores always had better quality mattresses at decent prices.
For instance, we bought a mattress years ago at one of the "Mattress World" type stores and within 3=4 months it was sagging (and this was the stores "best" mattress!). Called them, they replaced it, same thing happened again with new mattress. We then decided to go to a local fine furniture store and bought a Sealy that we had for 8 years that was fabulous!
Again, just 2 years ago we needed to replace it and had moved to a new city so went to one of those "mattress world" stores, laid on several, and bought a Sealy for $900. It felt real good for about 6 months then started to sag and be extremely uncomfortable. So, we went back to a furniture store again (Taft here in NY) and bought a Sealy mattress for $600 and we love it. We've had it for about a year now and are very happy. Lesson learned: Don't buy a mattress from a "mattress" dealer. Go to fine furniture store that sells mattresses LOL!

If there is one in your area, I would highly recommend visiting the Original Mattress Factory.

Don't judge based on hotel/motel mattresses, those are special made for the industry.
I worked for Sealy mattress for 4 years at their B.O.M. Manager.
The best advice I can give is LAY DOWN on what ever you are thinking of buying before purchasing... and then go one level of firmness UP.
Pillowtops will feel wonderful (I own a crown jewel level Stearns & Foster pillowtop mattress) at first, but lose their comfort fairly quick by developing depressions in the top level.

The guy who started (actually several of the guys) were the top big wigs at Sealy and left there to start OMF.
Some good mattresses, some stinkers.
Every mattress company out there has a decent mattress at some level... it's just what you are willing to pay.

We had major problems with Sealy. The mattresses would get dips in them and be worthless after a short time. We finally bought a sleep number bed about 4 years ago and will never go back to a regular matress. My allergies are better and I don't have to worry about back trouble any more. It takes several days to figure out the right sleep number, but once you do, it's worth it. One plus with the sleep number bed is that it comes apart and you can transport it in pieces. Our house is 100 years old and there's no way a queen matress would have fit in the staircase. The sleep number bed fit there with no problem.

I have a Select Comfort Sleep Number bed and can't wait until I can afford to replace it. The mattress material breaks down over time and now my head is lower than my feet. Gravity forces stomach acid into my throat.
When I can replace it, I will get an adjustable bed.

Here's a nice article about how to reduce your exposure to hazardous chemicals used in mattress and bedding manufacture. Unlike most info about this topic, this article is budget-wise:

We purchases several years ago the Natalus air mattress..similiar to the Select Comfort... you can adjust your side of the bed to your comfort and your partner to theirs..We have enjoyed it and just bought the mattress and not the box spring..used our own under their mattress and is just fine. IF..I had to do it over again I would certainly look into an organic mattress that are in the magazines...or buy the organic mattress covers and pillows. You spend hours in bed during your lifetime so why sleep on sheets etc that are made with chemicals...Good Luck !!

How long ago was that?
I ask because the new mattresses that sealy and the industry brought out is about 10 years old. They were designed never to flip (A horrible idea in my opinion).
It should be fairly easy to find a mattress label and to find out if that line is available for retail sale.
Most of the sealy (and sealy variants) were special made mattresses for the hospitality industry.
I am sure some of the smaller hotel/motel lines probably buy their mattresses from retail sources.

My DM told me early on to get an excellent pair of shoes and try to get a perfect mattress. You are either on you feet or on your back so get the best you can afford. I guess now you can add chair to that cause a lot of us sit on out butts a lot at work!

Hi AJ
Yes I am on my feet a lot. I work at an assisted living facility and care for elderly.
I had rotator cuff surgery 4 yrs ago and had trouble sleeping because of pressure points and have 2 bad disc in my lower back. Since I bought this mattress I can get a good nights sleep and wake up with just about no aches.
I do make sure to have good shoes too. I can always tell when I need a new pair, my back starts aches and legs get tired.
Your mom was right. Then again, moms are almost always right. LOL
