Jena, hope you don't mind me adding more thoughts. Better yet, don't use wall paper at all.

Reese, I'm with you! And I'll add - DO NOT USE TEXTURED PAINT. Ever. Anywhere.

Jena - Oh, hon, I feel your pain!

Wet, scrape, peel, wet, scrape, peel... for hours...days... (While I suffered, thinking unkind things about DH's ex)

One day I turned to him and said angrily "Who's the doofus that cemented this carpy carp to the walls?!" He looked crestfallen and said "Um.... Me."

Oops. I had to do the rest of it all by myself.

How about that...Plus another layer or 2 of paper? Whoever did the work on this place prior to us being here sure was lazy! Still trying to get my mom to let me rip it and the horrid paneling down!

Yeah, I hate wall paper. Give me vast expanses of plain old painted walls.

Now I have been known to paint in some rather vibrant colors.....but who would want to cover those????

This thread sure brings back memories. I don't think they make anything that works as good or lasts as long as the glue of wall paper..go figure.

Best of luck on your project.

Doesn't applying sizing to the wall prior to hanging the paper make it release?

One of those little piercing wheels and a spray of vinegar and warm water really help to remove paper easier.

Funny...when I was a little girl, I didn't have ANY trouble peeling the VERY expensive wallpaper off of my grandparents' bathroom walls.... BOY did I get in trouble for that!

Rodger that!
Wall paper was the almost cause of my almost murder charge, the one and only time DW and I decided to do the bathroom.

Question: "Honey, did you know that the one little red flower doesn't match on that one piece?"
Answer: "I you can see that, you have been sitting there waaaay too long."

lilmommajnn, don't you know it's only the hideously ugly, cheap wallpaper that never comes off? LOL And an eternal curse on people who just staple down carpet over a hole in the floor!!!!

Jena,

I think your lookin at this thing all wrong ... a proper person would paint over it ...surf some alleys for "new" furnishings .... and call it a day !

he-he

keep after it ... and think of how nice it will look when it's done !

It was a Spring ritual to put up new wallpaper on the walls at Grandma's house. I found that even the dry strippable kind sticks and you have to wet, peel, scrape it off as well.

ugh I hate wallpaper too. The 30+ year old (textured) stuff had fused to the wall in this house and left stripes in the wall under it. You have my sympathy.

Don't use oil base paint, either.

And don't ever use that fake grass, glued on with super glue, mess in a bathroom. Takes three forevers to get off.
