Would it be considered rude or too forward.

To contact the couple who own a parcel of land next to us?

We are stationed overseas at the moment and found the names of the couple who bought the parcel next to ours when we were checking on the property tax roll.

They do not live in NY but in Delaware. I am just wanting to introduce myself and find out if there may be a time in which we can discuss the properties, or would it be better to just wait until the moons are aligned and the day comes when we happen to be at the right place at the right time.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Hey.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Alot of people communicate via letter, email, or phone.

Besides, you can't get hit by buckshot;-)

absolutely get in touch ifif for no other eason than to say howdy neighbor! it pays to get started off on the right foot. and besides, maybe there are mutual improvements etc that you can both participate in/ payfor. such things as gates, or putting in electric service.

I would contact them especially if you would like to purchase the property at a later date. They may not be receptive to selling the property now but should the occasion arrive they would be aware of your interest and you might be able to handle the sale as a private party.

I don't see any problem with this. My new neighbor to the east lives in another city & visits the property on occasion. He called shortly after he purchased the land and we talked for almost 2 hours. I met him in person during the holidays. He called again a few days ago to ask more questions - another long call. I'm so thrilled to have someone nice over there. The last people were .... ummm, undesireable at best.

I agree. I think it would be not only proper but neighborly. Especially since you are both 'off-site owners'.

I would and have contacted people that own property that I might be interested in buying. People have contacted me too, I don't take it personally.

Thanks for all the replies. I will write them a short note to introduce ourselves.

I figured since we are both out of state right now maybe we can put our heads together as far us keeping an eye on the timber etc.

Thanks again everyone.
