Moving to the FARM!

Looks like we are finally moving to our farm in Morganton, NC. I start work next week and we move before the end of the month! I can't wait!

Check this thread out for a pic and some info on the Farm...

Arial Pic of homestead, what would you do with the 500 white pines?

Thanks to all the folks who have given advice over the past the 2 years or so I have been a member, I am about to put a lot of it to use!

I will not have net access for a while, but I look forward to your responses!

Matthew

Heady days!
We bought our place almost three years ago (where has the time gone?!) and moved about 2.5 years ago. I can remember the excitement almost to the point of disbelief, and the exhaustion.. almost to the point of disbelief

We still pinch ourselves to make sure it's all real, and I'm sure you will too.

Celebrate the little victories, make your goals small and manageable.
Congratulations.

Congrats on the move. Where is Morganton? I keep putting off my trip to Charlotte until i win a tour of the busiest small backyard in mathews and now it will be no more. I guess there is little reason to go now except to visit family and friends but i've seen all of them before.

Good luck and will this place be as intense as your old place.

Congratulations, I live in Lincolnton not but about 30 minutes or so from Morganton. Beautiful country up there. I work for a hospital in Charlotte and am fairly familiar with Mathews, Pineville is one of my fequent stops. I'm pretty sure it will be a little quiter there. I work in Charlotte but you couldn't pay me to live there. I'm sure you'll be happier in your new home. Good luck.

Many congrats to you! I remember how exciting it was for us when we moved to our place 18 years ago. Heady days indeed! I agree -- don't start 100 projects all at once even though you may be tempted to.

Charlotte is my favorite big city. I've been to alot of big cities and Charlotte is my hands down favorite. That being said i live in Idaho so i guess big city life is fairly low on the list. I do love NC though. I would just need to be farther away from the city. Good luck

I thought of something today you might be able to use all those pine trees for since they are not large enough to cut yet. Consider selling the pine needles, excuse me I mean pine straw as they call it. That stuff is selling for top price right now because everyone is spucing up there yards. We used to rake them to put on our yard. It's fairly easy and does'nt take long to get a lot. May not be a resonable idea for you, just a thought.

Strawhouse, I use those for my goats and dogs as bedding. The only problem with the goats is that they eat it as fast as I put it in the pen! They love the stuff. Maybe there are some people with goats nearby.

I imagine you have grand plans for your new homestead. Start with a garden and get some small livestock. Enjoy and explore Burke county and the City of Morganton.
