Building codes and regulations in Maine?

I've found a place in Maine with an older singlewide, (suitable to live in while building/refurbing) barn, and a 28x40 metal building with 16 ft interior ceilings. Water, a filtration system, electricity and a heating system already in place.

Any ideas on the difficulties of getting something like this conversion approved there?

Thanks.

All depends on what town it's gonna be in. Call the town office of that town and ask em'.

What gilberte says is true........we built a log house in Maine about 3 years ago.........I fretted over the final inspection. The man walked in and looked at the electrical panel and looked to see if we had the proper outlets by the sinks and said everything looks good here is your occupancy permit and left! I really couldn't believe he didn't look at anything else.

From what I heard about the next town over the bridge, which was only 2 miles, it was a whole different story.

You need a soil test for your septic. The next town over sent an inspector to look at the installation (although I never saw him). An electic inspection may be needed (No one inspected mine however). In my town, in Arroostook County, there is no zoning, although you need a building permit. That's so they can tax you, the permit is free.

What town are you in? The further north you go in Maine the fewer restrictions you will have.

I'm in Tennessee, the place i'm talking about is in Troy, Maine. So no chance that the building could tap into the tank the mobile is using?

Waldo county.

It is entirely up to the town Code Enforcement Officers.

I live up in Argyle, one of many UT townships. We have much looser codes.

Good luck.
