press

What about making one out of an old ringer washer? I don't know if it would work or not, one would just have to try. Replace the rollers with one that has been turned down on a lathe. Just a thought.

I did try this, old style wringer, has rubber rollers and there was a flat spot for sitting. Should have yruned dowm the rollers.

I worked, but was very messy, juice/syrup got all over the place, very sticky.
I wouldn't do it again.
Wringer back being a washer wringer/ wall hanger.

The last one I saw at auction that was fairly complete went for around $1000.00. The same auction had a couple that were falling apart and the cheapest one went for over $400.

I'd be surpised if a washer wringer would be sturdy enough to hold up to the job. To get all the juice out, they have to be squeezed hard.

Go to syrupmakers.com. They will have some good options and resources to go from there.

To make good tasting sorghum be sure and strip off the leaves after they frost. A 3 foot slat and a shoulder high kid can strip enough cane to make 8 gallons of syrup in less than an hour.

i stumbled across the above linked webpage when i was searching for containers for maple syrup. i don't know if they deal in anything more than containers, but maybe it is worth asking them.

If you are near Indianapolis during the Indiana State Fair, they have one in operation in the Pioneer Village.
Of course, not for sale, but lots of knowledgeable folks out there happy to answer questions.
