Yahoo! My Chickens Are Finally Laying

I posted early last week that my chickens had not layed any eggs all winter and I was looking for advice. I found three eggs today in the coop! I am so glad. When I bought feed today I bought cracked corn also. It is a pretty day even though it's cold so I spent some extra time at the coop adding more bedding and cleaning up the water bin and just talking to them. If you had this problem this winter, hang on. The eggs are coming.

Oh, you show off!
(just kidding...I'm just jealous.)

We had a false start - one egg a few weeks ago and then back to nothing. I am relying on my two ducks for eggs right now, but they hide theirs, so I hope the stupid chooks will get their cloacas in gear soon.

where you live? My grocery store organic eggs have been out for a month or more but now they're finally back in stock. I can bake/cook eggs again and be willing to eat it.

We're finally back on track, egg-wise. Eight today, from 13 hens that are two and three years old. Hurrah! They started laying more than just the occasional egg about a month ago. We are in Middle TN and even we humans can see the days getting oh so slowly longer...

We just started getting eggs again in last few weeks.

Mainly I'm glad we are getting ducks eggs again because we have a buyer that gives us $6 a dozen.

We weren't getting many egg's either, so we switched to laying mash and we get almost a dozen a day now...since we sell about 4 dozen a week or so, it pays for the feed.

We've been away to PA visiting family and came back today to a broody hen setting on a dozen or so eggs. It's the first time for her and us. Our two children are excited.

Penny.

Congratulations! Nothing like your own fresh eggs. I have been getting one or two a day from three hens. One is still moulting and hopefully will start laying again soon.
