OH, MY, Goodness.....

You might just find that you find some really great people with open hearts and a bit of kindness to share with you....

Just be the wonderful, kind, open hearted, giving person that you and your family are and I think you'll be pleasently suprised at your welcome into the bastion of Liberal society.

btw - we aren't so bad.

I worked in Liberal for a little while waiting for graduate school acceptance. My parents lived there.

It's flat and usually dry, three miles north of the Oklahoma border and about 70 miles east of Colorado. (It's only about 40 or so miles from Beaver, Ok., where they have a cow chip throwing contest each spring.)

The economy was based on agriculture and oil/gas in the past, but meat packing is becoming a bigger part.

Demographics are mixed with about equal whites and hispanics and a smaller portion of blacks and asians.

There are some decent restaurnts (Kings BBQ, and a mexican and chinese).

The schools are fairly good. The high school is footbal crazy and also does pretty wellin cross country, track, and soccer.

It's about 70 miles north to Garden City where there's a good little zoo.

From Liberal you can drive to Wichita in about 5 hours; Oklahoma City, 5 hours; Amarillo, Tx., 4 hours.

I have never been there but dh and boys want to go see their aviation museum. It is supposed to be very good. We just haven't had the time, hotel and gas money to make the trip yet.

Mandatory to vote against your own best interests. If not, might be in for a rude awakening.

The aviation building has many aircraft. If you know what you're looking at it helps. The last time I was there, information displays were a bit lacking (it's been at least 5 or so years).

There's also Dorothy's house, a kind of low-rent tribute to the "Wizard of OZ." They have OZfest in the fall and invite any of the living munchkins to show up.

Living costs in Liberal are fairly low. The grocery stores offer a wide variety of goods for a city of its size, mainly due to the cultural diversity and because folks from the surrounding area to the city to shop.

It's also the only town I've lived in where folks walk out of their houses, sniff the air and mutter, "They must be burning blood today." (Packing plant)

If you stay east of Liberal, you are in some beautiful country. Most of the soil is a clay/sandy mix. There will be sand hills as well as flat areas. Liberal is between the cimarron and the arkansas river basins.

It's cattle country, rural population is small, available land to buy will be limited. In Liberal, there is a community college and a tech school. Meat packing is big in Liberal.

What else would you like to know?
