A good find...

I had bought my husband George Jones tickets for Christmas and the show was last night. Before the show we were wandering around the downtown Knoxville area. Imagine my surprise to find:

http://www.mastgeneralstore.com/

Smack dab in the middle of downtown! Greg had to laugh at me, I was like a kid in a candystore! (literally. They've got BARRELS and BARRELS of vintage-type candy. I loaded up on slap stixs, jelly nougats, neapolitian coconuts, cherry mash.... you name it!)
The clothing prices were pretty good, lots of sales. Decent cookbook section (has the Foxfire cookbook!), great toy sections- lots of vintage-type toys and books. Good prices there too. Some kitchenware, some foodstuffs- I told Greg that if they'd had a fabric counter, it'd have been perfect.

They also carry bluing, Fels Naptha soap and some other cleaning items as well.

He got excited over the show, I, who NEVER shop for anything other than food, got excited about the store! lol

Mast General Stores are everywhere now it seems. Have you ever been to the one in Valle Crucis?

I used to go to the Valley Crucis store as a young kid about 35 yrs ago when it was still an actual general store complete with old dudes hanging around the wood stove talking about the weather.

Oh wow........they've got Squirrel Nut Zippers. Probably my favorite candy as a kid. It would be really cool to go to one of those. Greenville isn't that far away. Might have to make my way there sometime soon.

Physically he seemed fine. His voice was really noticably weak in a lot of spots. I'm glad Greg got to go- I don't think the possum will be performing much longer.

According to the pamphlet, they're in Boone, Waynesville. Hendersonville and Asheville NC. And of course Knoxville, TN and the home of one of my favorite singers, Edwin McCain- Greenville SC.

We saw him at the Houston Rodeo way back in the 80's. He was quiet a showman. He had quiet a voice range, and unbelieveably low notes. There'll never be another like him. No Show George.

I love going to the Mast store in Valle Crucis, it is always near the top of the ToDo list whenever we visit that area. I am still holding out hope they have a good snowfall during a weekend this year so I can at least see a bit of it.

Charaty - I work downtown and believe me it's hard to not just pop over ALL THE TIME. I would be broke and have a mouthful of cavities.

I agree. He's Greg's favorite singer. Followed closely by Johnny, Waylon, Willie, Merle.... lol

Downtown Knoxville? Cool.

I know, and they stay open until nine, so those of us coming into the city after work can be corrupted too!
My kids were going through the bag asking "What's this? What's it taste like?"
