Cleaning concrete.......?

Ok. We had a relitive living with us for about a year. The deal also involved their two dogs. Neither one is very house broke and one has "control" problems. Long story short - they messed the place up pretty good. Luckily, it was confined to an enclosed porch. The relitive moved out this weekend, but the smell it still there. We have scrubbed, scrubbed, scrubbed with ammonia, Pine Sol, and soap and water. You can still smell the dog do. Anyone know of anything else to do? I figure that we will need to paint the floor before it's all said and done.....

Try damping the floor with a little water ( wet) and sprinkling wood ashes on it.
Let it dry, then vacuum. Repeat.
This works good out side, it will take off, oil, rust, anti freeze, cooking oil (SIL over flowed the hot dip turkey cooker) and most anything else.
Of course outside you just let the rain wash it away.

I would try petzyme stuff. It uses enzymes to break the leftovers down I would let it soak into the concrete several hours before washing it off.

How about a 5 percent solution of muratic acid. It should etch the concrete after a few minutes. The solution might need to be stronger.

this works but creates noxious, poisonous oders! make sure you and any living thing is well away from the fumes! do not mix anything with the acid and wear gloves, goggles and full covering of clothing. flush with water after letting stand. once dry after flushing, wet again and coat with baking soda let stand24 hours then vacum up the dry baking soda.

A mixture of warm water, sugar and bread yeast will also eradicate pet odors through enzyme action. After the watery paste ferments for a few hours on the spot, clean the paste up with a vinegar rinse. When dry you can pinesol it or whatever.

Cleans up a dog or cat soil spot and prevents future sniff out of the area by other animals for marking.

You might try white vinegar to start as an easy first try.

Another possibility is chlorine bleach. When you put it on, quickly leave the area and leave windows and the door open.

I'd try vinegar first. Spray it on, let it dry.

Degreaser and Kennel Odor Eliminator

I clean alot of concrete. First you have to use a serious degreaser ,then use a kennel odor eliminator. Just soap, pine sol or bleach is not going to do it.

http://www.interstateproducts.com/degreaser.htm

I use this kennel odor eliminator in my kennels all the time and love it. I even use it in the house.

Hope this helps.

What ever you do, don't paint concrete before you degrease it or the paint will not stick. It will blister, peel, chip, flake and be a complete mess in no time.

Thanks for the ideas! I ain't figured out what we're gonna do. I just wonder why the stuff was left for weeks instead of being cleaned up (or the dogs trained).

The previous owners of our current home had a cat with similar problems. I had to tear up all of the carpet in the lower level of our house (we got a carpet allowance as part of the sale) which is on a concrete pad. I then did a three step cleaning/prep process before having new carpet put down. One - clean with something like the "petzyme" already mentioned - very thoroughly. Two - clean with dilute bleach solution. Three - put 2 coats of "kilz" concrete sealer on it. Did the trick.

Yeah you'll need to seal that floor after you clean it or you'll smell it when the weather is humid. I had to clean a rental of mine after the renter kept a dog there (in violation of his rental agreement by the way)

Oh and purchase a blacklight. It is really helpful to find those areas you can't see in normal light but need to be cleaned.

rid-x . let it soak in real good. that fixed a spot on my concrete that the cat had been secretly peeing on. seems like it was a lot cheaper than the special enzyme stuff and it likely is the same or similiar. made to eat waste. mmmmm
