Takeing out all or just leaving the biggest screen in your hammermill? If so. and if that dosent work, look for a roller mill, I think it was called. It cracks the grain, or it can be made to do so, My uncle had one and didnt have a hammermill. Never saw him use it, or the results of his useing it. Thats just what ive been told. Good luck

thats right.

It has two rollers that run at a little different speed, and have an adjustabole gap between them. It cracks th ecorn open when th ecorn gets crushed between the rollers.

The corn has to be dry or you will make mush.

I have one

A Burr Mill will do the same. I have a Letz model 200 that I got from a neighbor for $25. It runs off a tractor PTO, but can be run off a belt/electric motor. You can use it to grind flour or just crack it. Check farm sales.

Look at the small grain mills used for crushing roasted brewers grains. http://www.northernbrewer.com/grain-mills.html

I've been using a hand cranked steel cut flour mill. Just set the burrs apart until it cracks but doesn't grind. It will keep you execised.

Red face

Many old corn picker/shellers have a neat roller mill in them that is easily removed and can be powerer by a small (1/2 hp) low speed motor. They even have the adjustments for grind size built in. Mine is around 24 in long, 16 in wide, 8 in tall. Easy to build a feed chute for them. Picked mine up for $5. can crank out as much or as littleas you need quick and easy. Mike

Today at a auction I found a Good Working Star Mill from the 1884 or the Pat, states 1884, But I can not find one or any info on it on the internet. It will grind corn to a feed ---guess you could regrind it a few times and get closer to cornmeal. It has a adjustment for fine/coarse, but I open it and took out a spacer/bushin and then it cracked corn real good, but slow. Its a hand operated mill with app 2 15" or so steel wheels--one one each side, weighs maybe 30 or so(guessing) pounds. I am thinking of petal power or a small gear reduction motor. Anyone familiar with this mill?
