Kubota L3400hst

Anyone own one?

I'm getting tired of fixing stuff on my Ford 4000 and the rodeo I have pushing snow.

Curious to hear of any feedback on the Kubota L3400 HST. Any thoughts are welcome!

Here are my thoughts.

I am a john deere 2 cylider lover, but I have heard many really good things about old ford tractors.
Your ford is paid for.
The homesteading way is to be satisfied with a PAID FOR tractor.
A repair that is done properly the first time will last a very very long time...Im thinking decades.
There cant be many things to repair on an old tractor like that.
If you can afford a $20,000 Kabota, you can afford to pay a professional mechanic to fix things right once, then you wont have to keep fixing things over, and over.

I wouldnt have a Kabota up my rear if someone paid me, and I had room for a dealership full of them.

all JD sentiment aside Kubota makes a good machine not to mention that a JD the same size would probably have a Yanmar engine anyway..... my .02

One of the biggest reasons I am going to sell the Ford is that it's two wheel drive. My property is hilly and plowing snow is very problematic. It's actually a bit unsafe.
It's also hard to get the tractor into some areas of the property that I need to get into with the two wheel drive. The Ford is a good unit. It's just time for it to go to someone on flat ground.

Two more cents, the Kubota L3400HST is four wheel drive with the ability to set the wheels wider for more stability. Should be a better fit for the situation you describe than the Ford 4000.

My husband just bought a Kubota L3400. He loves it and this place helped convince me that it was a good buy (there are a few reviews about using it on the hillside): http://www.compacttractorreview.com/...L3400_787.aspx

Here he is riding his new tractor:

I own one. I love it but then again this is the only tractor I have ever owned with about 70 hours on it. Look at tractbynet.com there is a Kubota area and do a search. Kubota L3400hst - Homesteading Questions

Love ours. Got it as a package including 16ft trailer, bush hog, box blade and front end loader for just under 20K. Works fine for our small acreage but I have noticed some drawbacks. My number one complaint would have to be brushhogging.....The front radiator/oil cooler screens get plugged up with grass seeds fairly easily and you run into high temp issues. I end up having to stop every couple of hours to hose it clean. Only bothers me in the "big" pasture (35ac) as it only gets mowed once a year in prep for deer hunting. The machine is well built and easy to operate....

I've got one and so far (it's got a whopping 6 hours on it) I love it. Got the three-year financing at no interest.

The only thing I would do differently is to get the ag tires instead of the industrial R4 ones. I wanted the extra strength (saw too many ag tires punctured as a kid) but they don't have the traction I need. But otherwise it's great; starts right up even in cold weather.

Thanks for all your thoughts. They are much appreciated!

OkieDavid,

When did you buy your tractor? I couldn't do that deal now if I had to....You got a lot of gear for that kind of money.

Kubota L3400 HST

I bought mine one week ago today and will get it next week. I got the R1 tires which are the farm tires(more traction) and the front loader for snow removal.

Was purchased (edit: I thought it was 7-8 years, wife says it was 5-6. Tractor and paperwork are over at dad's so I can't verify this early in the morning). Got one of those "super" dealer deals. As I recall it had something to do with the dealership needing to sell one more tractor by close of business to win a trip for his family to Europe or something.....Had been negotiating for a couple of weeks prior to the phone call where they sweetened the pot enough to get us to sign LOL. It's got a little over 300 hours (and a few scratches) on it now.

I bought one with the package deal 2 years ago, and I love it. It does everything we need it to. Been wondering how we did without one for so long. My dad has one that he bought the first year Kubota was available, the dealer where I bought mine tried and tried to get daddy to sell his to them, but he wouldn't do it. He uses it every year to hog, rake hay, and garden. Hasn't had any problems with it ever. Good buy.

That kind of thing never happens to me......I would have been the next guy through the door. LOL

Owner of a new Kubota L3400

Have only had it for a month and have not had to move snow yet. My only thought was the loader did not have as big of a bucket as I am used to. (I grew up with big tractors.) We went with Kubota because when I talked to the dealer, he listened to me and asked me what I was looking for my tractor to do. The John Deere dealer told me that the "John Deere" name spoke for itself, and didn't seem to care if he sold me a tractor or not. Kubota's warranty was better.
