Is double posting shunned on here?

If a fellow wanted to reach more folks on a subject, would it be frowned apon to post it in two seperate boards? ...even if only done once in a blue moon. I was wanting to post the same subject in two places in order to reach who I need for advice. What do you all think? Thanks

Wow! Thats a real fine avitar PC, brite and cheerful.

I have another question to throw in too. How do you create multiple qoutes in a single reply? It takes too long to qoute one person at a time in single replies. Thanks!

It is frowned upon but seldom anything is done about it. Instead I would post it in the most appropriate forum and maybe post a link to it in th other forum. That way you only need to follow 1 thread.

I have double posted before. Sorry if I was not supposed to do so. I just thought I might get more replies and suggestions if I put it in two places.

wy white wolf: How would I do what you describe and put a "link" ? I have just been putting the same post in two difference sections. But how should I do it ? Thank you.

As longas the question is being asked, I sure frown upon it, seems to clutter things up, & scattrers replies all over the place - very hard to follow along when there are 2 different threads running on the same topic. Gets frustrating, I tend to not bother with a thread after I see it repeated in several places.

It comes off as an impatient person who wants info real fast, & not caring about many getting to share info in a nice, easy to follow, manner.

If a person posts a question & gets no or few replies & the thread drops to the bottom of activity, 3-4 days later post it in another section & see what happens there. Much better way to treat others.

If you need a reply so terrible quick that you can't wait, perhaps an open forum is not the best place to get a reply, but get on the phone & call local folks who can offer you immeadiate help?

Flooding a discussion site with the same question seems so self-centered, "I want attention & answer me me me I don't care about others & don't want to waste my time I don't care if you have to see the question over & over it's all about me......."

If all we want is everyone to sdee our question, then there should not be different discussion areas. Just one, put any question or comment in the one forum. This site is split up into different areas for a reason - to keep things interesting, easy to find, keep it fresh, and keep folks with different interests around.

Multiple posting seems to defeat all of that, & just turn a web site into jumble soup. Why?

There are times it seems ok, each situation is unique and there is no iron rule that covers everything, so I'm not trying to make more of it than I should. Just want to get my point across, & being blunt is the way to do that.

Again, I haven't said anything to anyone in the past, & not my business this isn't my web site, but since I was _asked_ here, that is how I feel about double posts. It seems a very self-centered thing to do. Just my opinion.

Not my board, I'm not a moderator and I really don't care for double posts...That said, I also believe be discreet, and as you said, "once in a blue moon" would sound to me to be a good rule.

You can do multiple quotes by typing: "[" Quote "]" copy and paste the part of the quote you want to use "[" /Quote "]" Type your text for the first quote, and do it all over for the next quote.

Be sure to edit out all of the message except what you want to quote...Don't be so lazy that you just quote the entire message...I already read it once, I don't need to see the entire thing again, just the part you think is important and want to address.

To add a link, go to the message you want to link to, highlight the address in the address bar at the top of your browser, (right click and choose copy or press ctrl+C) go back to the message you are wanting to link from and choose the icon at the top that looks like the world and a chain link. Box will open wanting to know the text you want displayed ...enter text.. then the box will ask for the link (right click and paste/ or press ctrl + V). There ya' go.

OUCH! I have double posted several times and now I am sorry I did! Sorry! I double posted since I only read / go to several sections on the site. I don't have time to read every area each time. And I thought maybe there were others who did not read a section or another and maybe someone would read a post in one section who might not read it in another! But now I see that others may not like it and so I won't do it again.

Would it be OK if a post was in one section, did not get many suggestions and so a week later it was posted in another section? Is that considered OK?

I always click on New Posts when I come here, and it gives me anything since my last visit, in all the forums. Sometimes I see the exact topic by the same poster in 5 or 6 different forums, and all the threads are started within a few minutes. They are some fast cut and pasters. I agree with whoever said that it is no fun when a good discussion takes off on two different forums, it really makes it hard to follow two discussions.

I do see the light on this subject. Thinking about it lets me realize just how annoying and spread out such a thing would cause. I am glad I asked about it first, instead of gotten nasty pms and rotten smilies!

Looks like a couple already screwed up though... I think the forum board should get together and decide comfortablynumb and meanwhile's fate, we just can't put up with such ignorance

I will just keep this clean and simple as possible, by just posting in one for a term, and then switching over to another area for a spell. Should keeps things on the level this way. Glad I asked about this.

I'm gonna try the multiple quotes and see if I can make that work. Thanks guys.

Again, I'm not running anything here, and only typing because we were asked - I don't sit at my keyboard and grimace & think bad thoughts of people.... It's not a big deal to me - just as long as it came up, I don't know how else to express myself than put it on the line, as it were.

I think your idea is excellent. If no one replied for 2 days, probably dead end there & try another area. That would make good sense to me.

And if a person runs out of water & wants help getting the critters watered by morning on a weekend, I sure can see where a person would be looking for the biggest audience! Wouldn't be surprised or bothered by such things at all, this place is to help people, when help is needed, not a bother.

jmho

I've had situations where people have posted on the horse forum that they were getting cattle and what could they expect as far as horses & cattle together and again on the cattle forum that they were getting cattle that would share space with horses but what else did they need to know about cattle. I've also seen people post when they were building barns and cross posted because they wanted responses from various livestock people. I think that most mods are quite reasonable if you communicate with them.
