Labeling tool boxes??

We have ALOT of black tool boxes. We have one with our sanders and paper, one with the jigsaw and the blades, one with the stapleguns and staples, one with electrical tools, one with plumbing tools, etc --you get the picture.. I hate that I have to look through half a dozen to find the one I want. I want to label them but paper labels don't last, the white paint pen does not work well and I really can't beleive that these companies don't make labels for these tool boxes... So, I need ideas of how to label them, so that they are easy to read.. I had thought about placing 'peel and stick' letters on the front and one side and stray the box with bright (Dewalt) yellow paint and when it was dry peeling the letters off--to reveal the black! Would this work?? Thank you for any and all suggestions, ideas etc.. Queen Bee

My wife used a paint stick and wrote on my black plastic tool boxes. Last year I got a label maker for Christmas that has been great for labeling stuff.

I bought one of those label makers that use a stick on tape to label my tool chests. It works great except now that I have reorganized I can't get the old labels off!

Use a woodburning tool with a small tip to write IN the plastic then use a white paint pen to fill in. You won't rub the paint off then. It will stink a little )

Shouldn't take too much effort to label "Mine" and "Yours." Anyone else have to have their tools separate from spouse's so they always have what they need?

Hot soldering iron and paint is the way to go. I might also suggest painting each box a different color.

I have a large number of ammo cans that I use for many purposes. I just print out the contents of the can on regular paper, trim to size, and cover with clear packing tape. If the contents change I peel off the old and replace.

My DH gave me some lovely magnetic tool box labels so they can be moved around when I rearrange my tools. I even have the big red roll around tool box to go with the magnetic stickers. Yay! Now if he will just quit borrowing my tools and not bringing them back! Ack!

What we usually put labels on, though, are the ranks of file cabinets we have in the garage. We get them at yardsales for a couple dollars each and then store tools, fasteners, sandpaper, etc. in them. I just used a magic marker and masking tape to make labels several years ago because I got tired of opening drawers to see what was inside.

I just use regular labels I print on my printer that I use for shipping etc. I print them out and then cover them with some clear tape to keep them legible if they're going to be on stuff that gets outside or something. I've never found the tape necessary on things like my rolling tool boxes, small parts organizers and stuff like that but it keeps the labels nice on other things.
