What kind of livestock do they sale? Is it an assortment, chickens, goats, etc.? I love livestock auctions, I will have to see how far it is from me.

I think it's every Saturday morning...If I could free up some time I'd like to check it out. I think there's still an auction in Taylorsville weekly too.

Even better. I have been to the auction in Shelby but it starts on Thursdays at 7 pm. Even when I leave early I don't get home until after midnight.

Saturdays are good. If someone goes before I can get up there please give a report!

I went to Cagle's this morning
It was very easy to find, about a mile off the highway, well marked with a large sign.
Located on a sheep farm owned by the auctioneer and family.
For a chilly january morning the parking area was close to full.
There is a consession stand open with snacks and drinks.
The auction is a consignment sale, so what shows up is what is sold.
They start with equipment, then move to the larger animals.
on down to the smallest livestock.
When we got there, some folks were leaving.
Grumbling about "just a bunch of birds today"
Most saturdays have a better selection of small livestock.
Today was a bird day
prices followed a basic pattern as follows:
Young turkeys (avg. 8-10 lbs.) $16 ea.
Bantum sized roo's $2-4 ea.
Bantum sized hens $6-8 ea.
Rare breeds went fast! $16-30 ea. sex didn't seem to be a factor.
Standard roo's $4-6 ea.
Standard hens $6-10
A crate of HUGE Cornish X roo's went for $16 ea. the first bidder who took half...$15 ea. on a re-bid for the other half.
Guinneas $6. ea.
Some Hawk looking game birds (never seen anything like them before....beautiful creatures) sold for $30. ea.
A lot of 4 parakeets went for $5. ea with a small cage included.

The people were very friendly, but a tight knit group of mountian folk.(as is expected 'round here)

we definitely plan to go back this spring, when we can add some new critters to the "zoo".
