everyone in my home does. It has made a huge difference in our health and I couldn't say enough good about it. It takes a little getting used to but is well worth the effort

I had to really struggle to find the right 'blend' to use or my nose would literally get burned on the inside. Table salt, not sea salt. Tepid water, not hot or cold. Filtered water was the best - no chlorine from city water in it.

Once I got the liquid right I loved it!

I just read an article today about them in our local paper. Guess Oprah (I actually think I saw the episode) made them sell like hotcakes thanks to Doc Oz. As I sit here sniffling from what I assume to be a cold coming on - I'm really tempted to try to find one!

Although..that being said, I wonder why a person couldn't just use a 60cc syringe minus needle, of course, and administer a saline solution that way??

My dh uses one. Had sinus surgery years ago and the dr had him irrigate with a water pic OUCH!! He says this is much more effective and much more gentle on the sinus membranes.

I use one and I really like it. I use kosher salt in mine.
Weird thing: I've never snored in my life and over the past year I'd started and had no idea why. My doctor wanted me to go to a sleep clinic to be checked for sleep apnea. The very first time I tried the Neti pot the snoring vanished. Woohoo! I was starting to feel old and decrepit.

I use one too. Now that I've discovered how much good they do, I'll never be without one again. I never had any problems with getting the mixture right. It worked pretty good the first time and by the third time it was like an old friend. LOL

If anyone decides to get one, don't use just any salt, be sure you get pure salt, not idiozed or mineral salt. The company I got mine from recommended sea salt or kosher salt.

I guess that I don't because I have no idea what a Neti Pot is.

I don't use a neti pot just because I haven't gotten around to getting one.. I do however have the wonderful ability to breathe water and do that regularily. I fill a cup with warm, salted water..lift to my nose and slowly inhale until the water fills my sinuses. I turn my head upside and shake..turn upright and blow. Very sexy!

I do a nasal rinse whenever I feel the need which is about once or twice a month. Don't use a special pot for it though. I just mix a teaspoon of salt to a quart of warm water and snort it up from my cupped hands. I've stopped using Sudafed completely (my doctor is grateful) and pretty much all other cold/allergy meds altogether.

I use one, but it's just an old tea pot not an official store bought neti pot. When I discovered what a neti pot was I went looking around to buy one, I got a lot of "you want whaaaaaat?". It definetly helps my sinuses which I didn't know i owned sinuses until I heated with wood and forced hot air heat.

Instead of the pot, DH and I use a bulb syringe (found in the baby section for removing mucus in the nose or flushing ears) about 2X/week. 1 cup warm tap water (without chemicals) + 1/4 teaspoon UNiodized salt and a pinch of baking soda (has to do with the ph). Cold, hot or city water are all VERY BAD.

Flushing has helped us both considerably. DH had been on some type of allergy medicine most of his adult life and rarely takes any now (after 2 years of sinus flushing). He still has allergy problems in the hay mow, but wears a respirator during the time he is working there.

I have enlarged turbinates (as of age 41-42) and developed severe problems with any type of dust/mites, dander from livestock, etc. After 2+ years of coughing and gagging from the constant drainage, I got allergy tested and found this out. We threw out all the old pillows, put sealed covers on the mattress and new pillows and took the carpet out of the bedroom and living room (none in the house now) and bought leather furniture vs. fabric. All of these things helped tremendously, but I do still get some drainage a day or two a week and the sinus flushing curtails that.

The ENT started me on a steroid medication when I was first diagnosed with "enlarged turnbinates" and I decided that wasn't for me and went on a search for a better solution. My uneducated theory is: that as we age our facial structure changes and with that our sinus cavities change shape and the allergens are now laying and collecting in the low areas. I've eaten pretty much a low-fat diet forever, so I don't have much mucus to begin with and therefore, don't blow much, mostly a drip. Also, the carpet and mattress in our bedroom (where I was having the worst symptoms) was then/now more than 15 years old. A lot of dander and mites have collected in that amount of time. The down pillow I was using was probably more than 2 years old. I have used down pillows and comforters for 20+ years, but never had the problem before. The sealed, truly washable covers are worth the expense (not the ones Wmart carries that rips like paper).

Mother Earth News had an article on this which was our introduction. You can read it by doing a search on their website.
Happy breathing!

eta: The ENT could not give me an explanation as to why I all of a sudden had enlarged turbinates, just that it occurs in people in mid life and mostly to women. The allergy specialist never made any suggestions as to the carpet, bedding, etc., just I should start taking shots. The doctors were instrumental in helping me solve my problem as they did give me somewhere to start from their diagnosises in searching for a solution. DH was just "in the way" and he got major relief too! I am very thankful for the inet (except when I'm spending too much money because of it)!

Me neither. Sounds like those peat pots that are used to start garden transplants in that have the nylon netting around the outside of them.

Why would I put salt water in one of them and then dump it up my nose?

Youa nd Cabin Fever are unenlightened Philistines.
Neti pots look like little Aladdin lamps that you fill with warm salt water which you use to pour in one nostril and let it come out the other with your head tipped to the side.
