Question Where can I get a great deal on a water heater?

My water heater is leaking. Husband checked it out and said the bottom is shot. It's 12 years old so he was expecting it. He wants to go tankless and I hate paying retail.

Anybody know where I can get a new one from a dealer or something?

Thanks much,

RedTartan

Well, this is a bit late, but Sears had them on sale thru new year's eve. We ordered a 10 gallon one because our 4 1/2 gallon tank is very, very old & making ominous noises.

Are you asking where to get a new H20 heater or tankless heater??? It wasn't clear whether you and your hubby had decided on which as yet. Also, are you replacing an electric, natural gas or propane model and have you made a decision on just changing it out to the same or to another type?
If you are looking for a propane hi-efficiency power exhaust, we have a scratch and dent model that we never got around to using when we were building our home. Went with a comdicore propane tank (80 gallon)which we use as bulk hot water holding tank only; heated by our outdoor wood boiler. Have ALL the hot H2O that we need and while we have back-up propane fuel tanks in place for use if needed to heat this with and to meet the inspection requirements prior to getting our occupancy permit, we don't EVER plan on using them.

This is the advice I'd give you for a tank type heater. I don't know if the industry uses the same method for the warranty on tankless, you might try though.

The warranty on a tank type heater is from the date of manufacture give or take a few months. Go to a place that sells water heaters and look at the displays. Find the date of manufacture on the tag stuck to the side of the heater. Keep looking until you find one that is expired or about to. Offer to buy it for 25% off. Most places will give a deep discount. Make them give you a hand written reciept that shows the heaters serial number and the date you bought it. Don't lose the reciept as it's your new proof of warranty. Yes the manufacturer will honor the warranty from date of purchase as long as you have the reciept.

Copperkid,

We're looking for a gas tankless water heater. We're hooked up to a well Thanks for the offer though. You should list it on the Barter Board. Somebody would love it I'm sure!

Woodsrunner,

Great idea. I'll see if it's the same for a tankless. Can't hurt to check.
