Will paint thinner remove adhesive and glitter?

Long story in brief... I found a bunch of these large, (about 10" across) tin stars. They look like the ones sold as 'barn stars', not flat but protrude from the wall, like people put on their barns, houses, etc. Got a batch of 16 for $5. Made of a fairly heavy tin. Problem is that they have some kind of adhesive and icky thick gold glitter on them, maybe they were Christmas ornaments or something. I want to remove the glitter and adhesive/glue/whatever it is, and I've been using a metal putty knife and it's very slow going. Got 4 done and only 12 more to go. There has to be an easier way.

Will paint thinner remove whatever kind of adhesive or glue was used to glue on the glitter? I want to prime them and spray paint them green to go on my house, barn, and etc. Don't know what kind of adhesive/glue it is, water won't wash it off. Any suggestions?

Goo Gone might work...and as a bonus it smells better than paint thinner.

paint thinner,
WD40,
lacquer thinner,
alcohol
they all will work on different types of chemicals, some are stronger than others,

To use any of these use in a well ventilated area, and away from any flame, or ignition source, as they are all flammable.

Several different products that go by the neme thinner. Laquer thinner will melt enamel paint. I'd try that. If no luck, go to ZipStrip. Then after you have the paint, Googone will remove what glue didn't come off with the ZipStrip.

can you fit them in a canner? boiling water strips paint right off metal, it would be a non-toxic, easy way to do it. It might at least soften the glue for you.

I keep a can of 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner(part no. 08984) that has done a good job cleaning off any sort of adhesive. A qt. can be bought for a reasonable price at most Auto Parts store or good paint store. Lasts me forever and as handy as a country wife...Glen

old fashion lighter fluid

Remember the cans of lighter fluid you used to get for the old fashion flip top metal lighters. My sister has a friend who swears by it. He uses lighter fluid to remove any kind of gunk from anything. Just use carefully, no smoking please.

I would try acetone,, about 5-10$ a quart and is a h#lla good cleaner! I use it to clean all kinds of adheisives? glues and stuff. You can buy paint stripper for about $20 a gallon from the box stores,, I like the gell type stripper. spread that on and rub it off with sawdust. That will remove the paint. You will have alot left over for other paint removing tasks also.
Remember the fresh air thing while doing this!
As far as strippers go, be sure it is from the can and not from a gentlemans club from town!,,,the later will have no idea what to do and your wife will not accept her doing any type of work at the house!
Don't ask how I know this! J/K
